just been cleaning my comp using your 'read me first' guide...my comp hasn't been running like she used to-can be a little slow at times (altho nothing major i just wanted to do a good old virus/spyware etc check.) wiped her and reinstalled everything a few months ago due to some re-occuring problems so she should be working good.
its more likely that i have too many processes running causing the occasional slowness but just incase it is anything more serious i thought i'd attatch the scans since i've got them, if anyone reads them and notices any abnormalities-or things that shouldn't be there i'd appreciate the advice!

(the avg scan found 4 results the first time, but didn't save scan so had to do it again later and it found 2 as attached)

    cheers.

Your logs do not show any malware issues. I will give you a few things to do to remove some a few unnecessary items which will help with performance issues too. Beyond these you will have to investigate what you need and do not need.

But first, you need to disable the Guest user account since leaving it enabled is a security risk.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_01
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now reboot.

    Now run Ccleaner!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

thanks for the quick fix, did all the changes.

you said i need to disable the Guest user account since leaving it enabled is a security risk...did 'disable/remove windows messenger' do this for me? its just it was already disabled in control panel/user accounts...

i read somewhere that there is another way to disable the account 'properly'..

thanks for the help and happy christmas!

    tosh.

In the newfiles.txt log which was part of your MGlogs.zip file it showed a lines for user acccounts like below
    Code:
    Users on this computer:
    Is Admin? | Username
    ------------------
       Yes | Administrator
              | ASPNET
              | Guest
              | HelpAssistant (Disabled)
       Yes | jonathan
              | SUPPORT_388945a0 (Disabled)

If the Guest account is disabled you should see the ( Disabled) after the Guest name like you see for the other two disabled accounts. You may need to reboot after disabling it to see the affect in a log though. Using Control Panel, User Accounts is the correct method. My comment was only based on what I see in your log. If User Accounts already shows it disabled, then you should be OK.

    Merry Christmas!!
