Apparently I can't play because I keep getting this message when I run the .exe file: This system does not support fullscreen mode. Chose 'close' to terminate the application. Is there any way I can get around this error? Do I have to switch to a different OS or is it possible to make minor changes and keep this OS? This is frustrating because I've been searching for this game forever and now that I've found it I can't play. Please help!

You need to provide more information. Take the time to tell us about your computer. What kind of cpu do you have (Intel or AMD, how fast is it, what model?), how much system RAM (memory) do you have? What sort of graphics card do you have? Or do you have a built-in graphics chip on the motherboard? If so, what is it and how much RAM memory can it make use of?

Then check the game box or manual to see what its requirements are -- especially check the RAM and graphics card/adaptro requirements. it sounds as though you probably don't have enough RAM -- either system RAM (in the case of an onboard graphics chip) or graphics RAM (if you have a separate graphics card).

Is there a way to adjust the game settings without actually running the game? Some games have a configuration or settings utility or a cofig file that you can edit (though you shouldn't try this unless you can find clear instructions, perhaps on the game company's website, about edting the game's config file). If you can change game settings in this manner, see if there's a setting that will allow you to run the game in a window rather than in full screen mode. If so, that may be a temporary fix.

You're more likely to get help quickly here if you provide more info in your first post. At the very least it's usually a good idea to let us know your basic system specs: what kind of motherboard and cpu (or what make and model of name brand computer), how much RAM memory, how large a hard drive (and how much free space available currently), what kind of graphics card (or onboard graphics chip), ditto with your sound card or chip. And it's always important to say which operating system is installed on your machine -- you did specify Vista in your thread title, but it would be easy for someone to miss that, as I did the first time I read through your post, so it's best to include all the system info in the body of your message.

Give us some more info and perhaps someone will be able to provide you with more specific suggestions.

    Good luck!

Here's some information on my computer:

    AMD cpu

    OS: windows vista home premium
processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
    RAM: 894 MB
    system type: 32-bit operating system

    c drive: 225 GB
    d drive: 7 GB

Here's where I downloaded the game:

I guess it's not compatible with Vista? That's the only problem I can think of. I see XP for Windows only.

Have you tried right clicking on icon and running under compatibility mode? has options for xp 98 also has options for 256 color . Give it a go and let us know :)

Ok. I tried that and it still says "this system does not support fullscreen mode".

It may be the resolution your monitor is running is above the max that the game allows. try lowering resolution to say 800 x 600 and then see if it runs

What kind of graphics card is installed in your machine (or, if you have graphics built into the motherboard, what kind are they)? If you have a separate graphics card, how much onboard RAM (i.e. RAM exclusively for the graphics card that is on the card -- not the system RAM) does it have? I'm doubtful that not enough graphics RAM is a problem though as I looked at the game download link you posted and it certainly doesn't appear to be a very demanding game graphically.

I'm guessing it is some sort of Vista incompatibility. Too bad turning on the compatibility settings didn't help. Does the site you downloaded the game from have a users forum where you could post there asking if anyone's been able to get the game running on a Vista system and how they did it?

wow from what people were saying about the game you may have to give dosbox or similar dos program a try.

I'm not quite sure how to use this dosbox. Can someone help get me started?

Check that forum for this game at abandonia. There is info about a DOS emulator you need. Check that there's a version of that DOS emulator that works well with Vista. You should be able to get help there with installing the DOS emulator software and then getting the game to work with it. Look through the forum postings there for this game. Note that when setting it up to work with the DOS emulator you need to configure the sound settings carefully.

You really would be better off, I think, asking for help at the abandonia site as people there have more experience with this specific game and getting it to work with the DOS box (or whatever the DOS emulator is called that abandonia recommends). But I saw, when I skimmed through some of the forum threads there, that a lot of people seem to have had problems getting this game to run.

    Good luck!
