    HI,

I searched this forum for any help and I couldn't really find any answers to my problem so I was hoping someone could help me. I did the Windows clean up procedures with MGtools, Spybot, etc. and I still have a problem. A window keeps popping up saying I have a virus and I need to get rid of it, click yes to get rid of it. Well after a few times I'm starting to figure out that that message is part of the problem.

I don't really know what else to do so I'm going to attach my logs and hopefully someone can help me out. It was called a Worm.Win32NetSky in the message box that pops up. But I also think it may be a Rundll32 virus or something. I got it mistakenly downloading what I thought was a video player up date. Thanks for any help you can give me!

p.s. let me know if there is anything else you need me to upload as well as my AVG log I had to cut down. I had 36,000 small trojans? i think it was in my temporary internet folder. it sounds worse than it was anyway. but i had to delete some of that from the log because it wouldn't upload. it was just what files was deleted and each file was just another number, so i didn't think it would matter since it's probably the same kind of file. anyway. thanks a lot for anything!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Is your copy of Spyware Doctor a paid version or free trial.

First let's remove a bad service.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Network DDE DSMA
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/pasteNetDDEdsma into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojg5&lid=2
    O2 - BHO: BDEX System - {83CDEF6B-98D2-4C60-84FC-00C44606A4F8} - C:\WINDOWS\domnftwpto.dll
    O2 - BHO: CVirtualDNSObj Object - {86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6} - C:\WINDOWS\VirtualDNS.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: The emlkdvo - {940EBD8D-A3B7-44F9-A850-F60E76BE3B22} - C:\WINDOWS\emlkdvo.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winvrh32 - winvrh32.dll (file missing)
    O21 - SSODL: alxvdvm - {E38E40E2-8917-4001-9533-CD51F250B732} - C:\WINDOWS\alxvdvm.dll
    O21 - SSODL: bvtqfvx - {DB997E22-2580-4488-9C1A-12BD7A3B83D8} - C:\WINDOWS\bvtqfvx.dll
O23 - Service: Network DDE DSMA (NetDDEdsma) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    hey

Thanks so much! I hope this worked haha. I think it's too early to really say anything, but in the last 5 minutes i haven't had a pop up. I won't feel safe though until i turn on my computer tomorrow and it's still ok and you say it's ok. I had only one problem when I went through your steps.

O23 - Service: Network DDE DSMA (NetDDEdsma) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Was not in the list, so I couldn't check it to fix it. Everything else was though so I did that. Besides that I didn't have any issues. Thanks again and tell me what you think.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks so much! The only problem I have is that my computer is running a lot slower, especially when it boots up. In fact, only really when it boots up. Any ideas? Should/can I also get rid of AVG Anti-Spyware and Spybot or should I keep one of those, or both. Thanks!

This is not due to malware. It is due to what you are running. I asked you if Spyware Doctor was a paid or free trial program but you did not answer my question. If it is free then uninstall it.

    • Also uninstall Symantec and use something that is not so resource hungry (like what is given in the How to protect yourself link).
    • Also uninstall all other unnecessary software. This does not include Spybot. Spybot does not slow down your boot up. It only runs when you do a scan with it and it is useful for doing this scanning as stated in the How to protect link. AVG Antispyware is useful too but you could uninstall it if desired.
    • You do need to make sure you installed one of the realtime spyware protection programs that were listed.
    • You should consider not running the below at startup but you are the one that must decide if they are things you need:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer] KHALMNPR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Component Manager] "C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPDJ Taskbar Utility] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb09.exe

The below I would definitely stop from running at startup. You can do this by having HijackThis fix the below lines:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LogitechDesktopMessenger.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Avi Player] "C:\Program Files\Avi Player\AviPlayer.exe" hmw
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aim6] "C:\Program Files\AIM6\aim6.exe" /d locale=en-US ee://aol/imApp

I did everything but the Symantec stuff. Isn't that my Norton antivirus and firewall? Don't I need that? But besides that I did everything else.

Okay but you did not say how things are working now.

You need an antivirus and a firewall. You don't necessarily need Symantec especially if it it the cause of your problems but that still remains to be seen since I don't know what your current status it after doing the other steps. If you still have problems, try uninstalling Symantec and then also run the below:

    Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)

    Are things better without Symantec?
    • If yes, then use tools given in the How to protect yourself thread.
    • If no, then check to see what else you still have actively running that could be an issue. But reinstall Symantec if you prefer to use it over free tools.

Everything is working fine. I'm going to hold off on getting rid of Symantec for now. My dad has another virus protection program that I might try out and in that case I'll get rid of Symantec so I'll see. Thanks a lot!

    You're welcome.
What program is it? Be careful with internet security suite type applications if that is what it is? They are all notorious resource hogs.
