Hey ive recently been experiencing problems with my pc as it takes a while to startup as i have to wait after ive logged on to use any programs otherwise the system locks up or the programs take ages to load even something as basic as notepad.

Itunes is also a big problem even when the system is fully loaded and usually runs fine after that. So i thought the first port of call would be to do a malware check just to discount it if nothing else.

It started a while ago after i reformatted it thats when i started to notice the speed difference as i recently have bought a new harddrive a couple of months ago and have reformatted about 3 times since then and it has become slower each time.

Before performing all the anti-spyware programs and matienance as detailed in the malware removal guide i did a lot of things to help speedup startup such as looking through msconfig and disabling unneded items and toning down performance options and disabling things such as indexing services.

But the startup problem still remains so i thought id check to see if malware is the problem first. I really would appreciate any help and time you can give this many thanks.

Your problems are not due to malware as your logs are all clean.

Are you sure you reformatted?? Or dd you do something else. Did you actually delete your partitions, repartion, format the partition and then reinstall everything from scratch. You definitely would not be having malware problems after doing those steps unless you reinstall from infected media. However as a I stated, your logs are clean anyway. You need to look into software issues or hardware issues (in the Software or Hardware Forums). You may want to to a simple test of uninstall ALL of Symantec first and then run this:Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)

Then see if you are still having major problems. If not, don't use Symantec, use what is recommended in the below link:

If you delete a partition you have no choice but to recreate a new partion. You don't have to delete a partition to reformat and reinstall but it is a much better choice to repartition to when it comes to security/malware aspects.

These are not really topics for the malware forum but you can look into links like the below for lots of information:
