    Hi all,

I'm having problems deleting files from my OS Win Me.
Whenever I delete a flie(s) the go to the recycle bend and appear deleted, even the gigabytes on local disk show them as removed, but when I restart the computer the files are back (return of the living dead). I have been unable to save anything also. Ex: If I download a virus program, it will ask me two restart the computer. When I restart the computer, the download(s) are not there. It's as if I never download the program. There are times when I try to Download Virus and Spyware program, It will re-boot before the download is complete and again nothing there.

I'm unable to format the HD because of this, Is there any hope.

    HD: wd 20 gb.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
Actually if they are still in the Recycle Bin then your free hard disk space will not change.

What files are you trying to delete? Give the full path name of the file.

Are you confusing the word downloading with installing? Download a file should not ask you to reboot, whereas installing a program will probably ask you to reboot. Exactly what are you downloading and/or installing?

How much free space is on your hard disk?

I have 2.16 GB of free space

Yes, I mean when asked to install. I have been trying to follow the THE READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions. I tried to set the MSCONFIG to normal startup but on reboot it goes back to selective startup. CC cleaner runs fine. I can open hidden files. When I get to spybot it seems to be installed, but the program will not run. and the SUPERAntiSpyware runs and hangs. The Using MGtool9x tool is the only one I have yet to try.

If I try to delete any file, it goes to the recycle bin. I click empty recycle bin and the files in recycle bin are gone and the free disk space shows an increase in available disk space, when I reboot they are back on the computer and the disk space returns 2.16 GB.

I seen something on the site about a .shs, .pir, .ink extensions. I did a search in explorer and I have something with that extension in a registry.usr file. and a Shellscrap.dll file, System.Dat file, and a lot of more files C:\system\restore\copy

Please try running it and attach the requested log if it runs. If it does not run, explain what happens.

I repeat my question. What are the exact file names and full path?

Just because you have file names with those extensions does not make them bad. Note: You cannot delete files in C:\system\restore This is System Restore and files in here can only be removed by disabling System Restore. And you should not do this (as stated in the READ ME) until all malware has been removed.

At this point I'm not convince that you have malware problems.

Here is the hjt file from MGtool9x.

Can you checkout this SN9x.Bat file; the Path=C: line looks wrong.

    and the GetUnKeys.Bat.

You are not supposed to be attaching these individual log files. You are just supposed to attach what was requested. And that is c:\MGlogs.zip Please attach this ZIP file.

You ddid not download and save MGtools9x.exe where specified. You put it here: C:\Program Files\MGtools9x.exe
The READ ME states that it MUST be here: C:\MGtools9x.exe

I don't know what you are trying to say.

And I repeat my 1st question for the third time.

None of the logs that you have attached thus far show any malware issues. You should probably be posting in the Software Forum but you may have to do either a System Restore or a reinstall. Win ME was a very flaky OS that just starts to have all kinds of problems over periods of time.
