Can I partion my HD

I wanna know if i can split my hd in half i have a 80gb Western Digital HD and i want 40 gb for what ever and 40gb for music and games or maybe 60 /20 does anybody know if i can do that and how

Don't leave so little space your windows partition is more than half full.

 

Yes cou can but you need a program to partition your harddisk i use partition magic but you have to buy i don't know a freeware version maybe others people know a good one.....And acronis disk director is pretty good to...

 

how would i do that useing diskmgmt.msc dont wanna play around and skrew something up

Have used gparted live cd and knoppix live cd in the past to accomplish the task. Both are free to download as an .iso file and then use img burn to create the disk. Need to defrag the drive to get as much to the front as possible, and your system is probably already set to boot from the optical drive first in the BIOS. I like jkdefrag for that. Just create the partition with one of the above disks and format in windows using disk management. If it were me I would purchase another internal hard disk drive, similar to the one your system already has but with more capacity, and install it as the slave drive.

thanks for your help i re installed xp pro and partioned my hd. its an 80gb Western digital but i split it into 2 halfs and now one is for music and games and one is for programming and computer applications ( other than gaming and music ) but thanks for all the help!
