Him and his bull :crap are too much for me to bear. 'Scientology is here to help'. So Tommy, who have you helped, you fund a school in Africa, donate food to the starving or perhaps supply AIDS meds free of charge? Eh Tom? Any of the above? Remember when he pooh-poohed someone's post partum depression on national TV. Who the f does he think he is?:mad

Oh, and that part about an accident on the side of the road and how a scientologist is different cause they would stop and help, it's who they are and what they do.

    wtf?

Tom Cruise and John Travolta, and several others have a hard-core Scientology group in Hollywood.

...So where's all these millions of people they've 'helped'?rolleyes Anyone who bases their lives on the scam writings of a Sci-fi writer (Ron Hubbard), is pretty much 'off the planet', to use an ironic expression. That's bad enough, but then they rely on brainwashing, coercion, blackmail, harassment, etc., to expand and maintain their membership. Sorry- it don't sound like the solution to mankind's problems to me.

LOL Laura, that's my image of him to this day, jumping oh Oprah's set couches, he had the right idea but should have lain down in one and have Dr. Feel (Sesame Street) have a go at him. Anyways, if I was in an accident I'd rather have EMTs around than that thing masquerading as a human. /end rant as it's a waste of energy.

At least John Travolta has been more low key about it.

Top Gun is such a cool movie I still love to watch it. (Big fighter jet fans in our house).

However, every time I see the name Tom Cruise now, I don't seem to be able to get passed the "butt plug" thread that was in here once roflmao It left a lasting impression on me!

he discovered that you can buy your way into salvation if you pick the right "religion" and do everything they ever ask of you.

Tom knows who you all are and will be knocking on your doors SOON.......

And I thought "Maverick" was James Garner and Mel Gibson LOL

I am a big Top Gun fan i watch it any chance i can. But i feel he has flown through someones jet wash and will never be able to recover ;) I keep flashing back to that part where he was playing follow the leader and lost control and i think the same thing is happening here.

yes, lets really go bash someone elses beliefs, what ever they may be. Thats always a good old time.

Actually surprisingly, no one has bashed scientology here...just Tom, who by any measurement is a wackjob. ;)

I will say though that I don't think that beliefs are exempt from bashing. There are plenty out there that are deserving in fact.

sorry title doesn't say, lets bash on tom cruise, but both. I agree that beliefs are open to critzism, but i dont think we should critize anyone for what they belive, regardless.

The way he's talking is just like a cultist, cults work like pyramid schemes he believes he's helping to save the world by recruiting more members and the new members think they are saving the world by recruiting more members all the while in the sales push everyone has forgot how to actually help anyone other than people who want to join in the scheme.

I'll bash it. I just don't know what to say.

It was founded by a Sci Fi author.
Its a religion only wealthy people can afford to belong to.
They brainwash, and they are involved with several unexplained deaths, and kidnappings.
The more you pay, the deeper into the "religion" you can get.
It makes no sense, has no basis in reality, and is one of the few "religions" that is complete with ALIENS!
It has been classified in some states and/or countries as a cult.

    Did I miss anything?

Nope. I think you covered it all. ;)

There are beliefs that are harmful, that was my point. I'm not convinced scientology isn't one of those. People who follow them should be criticized. Beliefs are not sacred.

    Damn.

    Let me try again.

People who are Scientologists are wackos.

    Wait, that bashes 'people'

    Scientology makes people wackjobs.

    There we go!

Careful, you've just invoked their fair game clause. They are now justified (to themselves) in trashing your reputation, finances, marrage, and any other dirty tricks they can come up with. They are known for no sense of humor, and are aggressive in avenging (to extremes) the most minor insult.

    Are you sceered yet?

The really funny thing is, I've heard a rumor that Hubbard created it as a joke, and didn't really intend it to be taken seriously. Don't know if this is true, but I wouldn't be suprised. As a sci-fi writer (a subject I consider myself an expert in) he was a hack.

Mmmmmmm. I wonder if the maybe the "Ancients" didn't say the same thing about somebody called Moses and his tablets, or maybe the Jewish Priest's/Rabi's said the same thing about somebody called Jesus.

Hey no love lose on my part for either T.C., or Scientology......but to each his/her own beliefs is my motto.

I think all religious beliefs are silly skittles so I'm not a hypocrite and I only discriminate a little between the more insane beliefs:D

I respect people right to have beliefs but I like poking fun once in a while if the beliefs are worth anything they should stand up to it,in Scientology's case its so shaky it has to be protected with every available tool to hold onto just a shred of credibility.

I think just about anyone who researches Scientology (I have), will not come to the conclusion that Moses and his tablets are anywhere near the same. Do you think all religions are cults?

Scientology has nothing to do with science. Well, science fiction, maybe.

It's interesting to see how this thread has developed since I first posted. Perhaps my post title should have been a bit less malicious, but there's nothing that I can do about this except to go whining at the mods here, who are well represented here too, may I add.:p I'll C&P something I wrote elsewhere, if that's OK? All of this is based on the vid and take it as you will or will not.

This was my response to them proselytizing their agenda:

What bothers me most is people who need to be spoonfed dogma from a 'higher power' and not take a really critical look in the mirror to see who they really are, no matter how bad it may be to the ego. It's obviously not an easy thing to do but it will ultimately free one.

I hope my rambling makes some sense. I truly believe as Christ said, 'Know Thyself' along with the golden rule. at this point I'm not even sure he said that, but no matter, it's still good advice. I am definitely not religious either, just spiritual.

Erm, /rant off. I really hope that I have not pissed anyone off but i probably did! LOL

That's OK, as soon as they read your post and this thread we are all toast!

That's really the only thing I have against them, but I don't know too much about them or other incidents. When I get a chance I'll follow up on some of the other links presented here.

Other than that I think a lot of their core beliefs (such as aliens) is silly, but to each his own.

Actually the rumor I heard was that he created Scientology to get himself out of bankruptcy because his books suck so bad. I know that Harlan Ellison never had a problem with bashing the guy over and over again, and Scientology never sued him. Leads me to believe there is a reason for that.
