    Hi all,

I got several virus/malwares/spywares/etc in my PC some weeks ago. After trying several free tools, I was not able to totally clean my PC. I decided to buy 'Spy Sweeper' and ran it. It detected several trojans/Virus/etc. Including Virtumonde. It was suposed to be deleted, but everytime I run the Spy Sweeper's scan it is there again.

Also, Symantec Antivirus detects from time to time a trojan Downloader under c:\...\temporary Files\Content.IE5. I delete them, but they come again.

I saw several threads on this Virtumonde, but I am not sure the solutions to apply are the same for everyone or it depends on the log files, etc.

Now I am trying to get to the READ and RUN FIRST link you have, and cannot find it...:-( ...So I have no logs to show you so far...

I will appreciate if you can try to help me on this...

    Thanks and regards
    Bernardo

    Ok,

I completed all the steps of READ & RUN FIRST as follows:

    1: House Cleaning & Setup

    Uninstalling malware programs
    =============================

Uninstalled Viewpoint Media Player (Not sure how it got there)

Msconfig must be set for Normal Startup mode
    ============================================

It was already in Normal Mopde, but restarted PC anyway. After restarting PC, found the following error:

    Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\ybdrknqv.dll
The specified module could not be found

Went to the registry and found the following under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run:

    Name: 8077a9ee
    Type: REG_SZ
    Data: "rundll32.exe" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ybdrknqv.dll",b

I have found this several times with random .dll names, and I have deleted it before, but keeps coming.

Empty ALL Quarantine type folders for antivirus and antispyware applications.
    =============================================================================

    Done

    Empty your Recycle Bin
    ======================

    Done

    Empty Norton Nprotect folder
    ============================

I am using Symantec Antivirus 9.0.2.1000 and could not find this icon.

    Download and install CCleaner
    =============================

    Executed with default options

2: Enable viewing of hidden files, system files and file extensions

    DONE

3: Procedures based on your Windows Operating System (Windows XP):

    - Ran combofix.exe, and log file was created on c:\ComboFix\ComboFix.txt instead of c:\ComboFix.txt
    - Ran SpyBot, and detected AdRevolver. Fixed
    - Ran AVG Anti-Spyware, but no report was generated. Attaching screenshots (AVG*.jpg)
    - Ran MGTools.exe, and got error uploaded as ErrorRunningMGTools.JPG (I went to regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\
and VDD value is C:\Program Files\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. Not sure if I should change it, and not sure about the value per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314452/).

Uploading all files in a single .zip (ReadAndRunFirst.zip)

NOTE: So far I have not got any pop-up window and Symantec Antivirus has not detected a Downloader (10 minutes after running all this). I will monitor the system and will let you know. Thanks!!!

Okay let's get started with your cleanup!

    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to etCom3 Service
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/pasteNetcom3 into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_07

Is your copy of Spy Sweeper a paid version of free trial? If free, uninstall it now!

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = wmplayer.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyClean] C:\Program Files\Netcom3 Cleaner\SpyClean.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: rqrsron - rqrsron.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\bcampesi\Local Settings\Temp

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    (1) etCom3 Service was not there
    (2) Trying to delete Netcom3 from HJT said that the service was enabled and/or running. Disabled it, and was able to delete it from HJT
    (3) Uninstalled Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_07
    (4) Uninstalled Spy Sweeper (I returned the software yesterday)
    (5) Ran C:\MGtools\analyse.exe and fixed the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = wmplayer.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyClean] C:\Program Files\Netcom3 Cleaner\SpyClean.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: rqrsron - rqrsron.dll (file missing)

    (6) Ran avenger.exe with the script in Quote (avenger.txt uploaded)
    (7) Installed current version of Sun Java
    (8) Ran ATF Cleaner for Main and Firfox
    (9) Ran C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat and failed with an error I think is the same I got yesterday with AVG, that has to do with the VDD value in registry, but I am attching the logs anyway.

Things are working very good now!!

Sorry about that. That was a typo. It was supposed to say NetCom3 Service Please try that part with services.msc and HJT again.

See the error messages and fixes given on the download page for MGtools. Refer to this: Using MGtools and do the fix mentioned.

You logs are clean but you can use analyse.exe to fix the below line:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
