... Windows Security Centre tells me that Comodo Firewall is turned ON.

I no longer have Comodo Firewall installed. I have run ALL my PC housekeeping programs to remove all traces of Comodo, CPF, CFP, etc., I can find.

I've run Search programs as well. I've run Cleanup!, CCleaner, EmptyTempFolders, Advanced Windows Care and many others.

A manual Search using Regedit has turned up a few Comodo entries :confused that all other programs have either ignored or missed, so that is the source of the confusion.

If I backup my Registry first and then delete these entries manually, should that do? Any other precautions I should take?

I originally had an earlier version of Comodo Firewall, un-installed it and then installed the latest version as at 13th Jan 2008. Comodo's "learning" process drove me mad. It didn't seem to be "learning", so I un-installed it thus leading to the Windows Security Centre confusion.

All ideas and suggestions appreciated before I manually edit my XP Pro registry. Bazza

Thanks dlb for the link. What an exercise to go through just to un-install a program. I'll check it out. Bazza

Can anyone point me to the actual un-installer for Comodo Personal Firewall latest version?

I've tried dlb's link. I've even joined the Comodo Firewall forum (against the grain). I've read the Comodo's experts posts but can't find the un-install link. I've even installed the Microsoft un-installer, but when I run it, it doesn't find Comodo to be able to un-install it.

I've had it. Reading the various posts in various forums, problems include some MS updates being rejected, lots of other folks can't un-install either, with the latest version.

I've had another strange MS Installer problem cropping up which I think might also be associated with Comodo.

Need help finding the exact program. :cry Bazza

Thanks a heap. I joined their bloody forum. I couldn't find any paperclip, or anything else in that first post, before or after joining. :cry Thanks for the direct link. :major The sooner I get rid of Comodo the better. Bazza

Just logged in again to the Forum. The paperclip is there now. I did log in soon after I joined, but I guess I was too quick.

    Thanks again, heaps. Bazza

    Re: "Uninstalling" Comodo Firewall.

Thanks Halo and Cat_w_9_lives for your thoughts.

I "uninstalled" Comodo Firewall. It took about 2 seconds. It must have just turned off a flag or something minor ?

Did not remove any files that I could see. As per advice in the un-install proceedure, I had to manually delete the Comodo Firewall Folder ( and the files therein).

I also ran most of my daily PC housekeeping programs before Regedit hoping these would get rid of Registry entries.

Then I ran regedit and found heaps of entries left behind. I deleted all those I was game to do. Some I left behind because I was not sure of the entries meanings.

@Halo@ I will try your link. Thanks again.

Never again will I try Comodo, (unless I hear of a later version with a built in un-installer) nor recommend it to others. Bazza

I tried their beta last year and got so PO'd at the 'learning' process! 56 popups to respond to before I even get online? I had no issues uninstalling it, but it was a PITA. I will not recommend this to anyone!

BTW, I'm running PCTools FW and it works just like ZA, at least on the surface. Only reason I got rid of ZA is that they were bundling their AS with the FW and I have no gripes at all with ZA as it has protected me well for over 5 years, I don't know if they still do but that turned me off. Thanks to PCTools, I have what I want running.

Re: Comodo Firewall, never again :)

Thanks augiedoggie for your experiences. Like you, I used ZA for many years. Might check out PCTools (even ZA). I have a modem/router (Netgrear DG834G with "Double Firewall Security (?) but need to up the default security (WPA etc) as I had to reset the router back to defaults mid last week due to Broadband connection problem/s. I still like the idea of a software Firewall even with the Router. I know lots of folks don't bother with a software firewall if they have a Router. Gotta think outside the box, I guess, and move with the times. :D Bazza

I'm using a router too and the FW doesn't have much to do, only reason I have a SW firewall is to catch outgoing stuff just incase something has gotten in.

    Re: "Uninstalling" Comodo Firewall.

My major bitch about Comodo is that it doesn't come with an uninstaller as standard, if you change your mind. When you have finally gone through all the rigmarole (joining the Forum, etc.) and running the un-installer, it still leaves residual Registry entries behind and Windows Security Center still indicates that you have Comodo as your Firewall ON.. Not for me, such contempt for users. Bazza

If I missed the un-installer as standard then I apologise. I couldn't find it in either of the last 2 versions. As you say, all complex programs should come with an un-installer. As for the Forum, I had to join just to get the uninstaller.zip program. That shouldn't be necessary, as I said it should be standard in the program. Comodo forcing joining is contempt just to un-install their program, IMO.

The left behind entries DO CAUSE conflicts, see thumbnail (just now). Windows Security Center still shows Comodo as my firewall. I can assure you I have deleted most of the Registry entries left behind after the un-install. A few still remain. I have yet to run Halo's suggestion to hopefully remove the last of them. Lets leave it at that. You have your opinion, I have my experiences. Bazza

*smiles* all, I just uninstalled Norton Ghost, GoBack, ZAP and had read a lot of horror stories about them too on uninstall - all went without a hitch. Think it depends on the PC. I now use Comodo without any issues and like it.

Bazza, manually removing registry entries that a program's uninstaller has left behind can be a real pain in the proverbial which we can all do without. Have you tried using one of the many third party uninstall utilities such as "Your Uninstaller"? I've been using one of these for some time now and it does an excellent job of cleaning up all those loose ends that are left behind by a program's own uninstaller.

Sorry to hear that you've had so much trouble with Comodo F/W. I gave up on Z/A not long after they sold out to Checkpoint and I've been using Comodo without a problem ever since. I tried several possible replacement firewalls when I dumped Z/A, but I found Comodo to be the most efficient and unobtusive of them all. A firewall is a rather complex utility and users need to carefully read and understand all of a program's configuration options before implementation.

Thanks Cat and Blueheeler for your comments. Only thing I'll say is that some days you are the pigeon, somedays you are the statue.
As far as Comodo FW is concerned, I'm the statue. :D

Steve has replied, in that thread, with an official solution. Hope it works. Bazza
