when you install a pci video card do you have to disable the on board video or is it automatic?

Your bios settings probably have it set to automatic

Thanks for the replies I ask because I seem to be haveing a little problem getting the color right and thought maybe they were both fighting against themselves so it is not that how do you uninstall recent driver installed and revert to the last maybe that is what I need to do. Thanks again

Maybe you can change the color profile. It's possible that you may need to install some software for it to work properly. What kind of card do you have? What kind of computer?

BBCC, double check your monitor cable, a bad connection or bad cable can cause some color problems.

If you don't have another to try, just make sure it is pluged in good on both ends. Try moving it around and see if the colors change.

Could be the physical monitor settings itself.

Hey everyone thanks for the replies, Im almost positive its not the monitor because I have been sharing it between two computers right now and it is the one I put together that I just cant seem to get it right even after adjustments could video card be the prob? I even tried updating a driver as a friend suggested didnt help. Maybe I just have to do some real fine tunning just thought it would be easier than this is all.. Thanks to all.

It could be the card. Generally speaking, when a video card is installed it will automatically override any built-in video on the motherboard. You may get strange colors until the driver for the new card is installed, then it should be fine. "Fine tuning" shouldn't be needed. Some motherboards do keep the on board built-in video still active even when a card is installed, but these are generally older boards with Intel video, and I've only seen it 3 times, and they were all older EMachines from 2002-2003. You'd have to boot in safe mode, go to the device manager and disable (NOT uninstall) the on board display adapter. Then reboot in normal mode with the card installed and the monitor plugged into it, then load the driver for it, otherwise the :crap would hit the fan. If possible, try the video card in a different PC on a different monitor and see how it is...
