    I'm having trouble removing timoy.exe after a smit fraud virus got onto my friends PC. I followed the special procedure for removing smitfraud including the regtools fix, and now have registry and control panel panel access. I have followed the Malware removal guide and updated Java and removed messenger live plus and done all the scans. please could someone help with the logs. AVG won't load properly on start up. The first smitfraud fix log is rapport1.txt. The post fix log is rapport3.txt.

    I will place the MG tools logs in another post.

    Thanks for the help.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    You have a lot more problems then just timoty.exe and you have had them for a long time. Why did you wait so long to fix your malware problems. Didn't you notice as far back as early Nov 2007 that you were having problems.

    Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.
    Now uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 1 of the READ ME.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [froody] C:\WINDOWS\system32\timoty.exe
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\RunServices: [0utlook Express] jsvdc.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\RunServices: [0utlook Express] jsvdc.exe (User 'Default user')

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    Driver::
    lredbooo
    noskrnl

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jsvdc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\timoty.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msanton.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\oteyegoh.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\midivro1.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\exreaww.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\suspend.bin
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\noskrnl.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\keith harris\kolenkor.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\keith harris\libcurl.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\setings.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\keith harris\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\setings.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\startup.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\keith harris\Local Settings\Temp\lredbooo.sys

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "froody"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "version"=-
    [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "0utlook Express"=-
    [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
    "0utlook Express"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system]
    "DisableRegistryTools"=-
    "DisableTaskMgr"=-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system]
    "DisableRegistryTools"=-
    "DisableTaskMgr"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer]
    "NoControlPanel"=-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer]
    "NoControlPanel"=-
    "NoWindowsUpdate"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run Ccleaner!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi Chaslang,

    Thanks for your help. My friend has only just bought the PC to me and I'm not sure how he has managed for so long with all these viruses etc.

    Anyway attached are the logs as requetsed after following your script. I have added Comodo Firewall Pro while waiting for your reply (disabled it while running your script). All seems to be running OK so far.

    Thanks again

    Hi Chaslang,

    Further to my post below, I have carried out an AVG scan and no threats found. However, the Norton Security Scan is still picking up

    Trojan.Kibik!inf

    the components are:

    Process:
    c:\program files\real\realplayer\realplay.exe
    c:\program files\dell\media experience\pcmservice.exe
    c:\windows\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
    Infection:
    c:\program files\real\realplayer\realplay.exe
    c:\program files\dell\media experience\pcmservice.exe
    c:\windows\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
    Browser Cache
    Registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run->PCMService
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run->RealTray
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run->dla
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\RealPlay.exe

    The pc seems to be running OK at the moment although I have not tried running the programs infected above.

    Any thoughts?

    Yes if you look at your ComboFix log you will see these were already pointed out by ComboFix.

    Doesn't Norton fix these??? If not, you should do the below to remove them yourself.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCMService] "C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\PCMService.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dla] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now reboot and after reboot, delete the below files:
    c:\program files\real\realplayer\realplay.exe
    c:\program files\dell\media experience\pcmservice.exe
    c:\windows\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe

    They are all valid process but they are infected now.

    Does the below file still exist? If so, attach it here:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrum242.txt

    Otherwise your logs look clean.

    Hi Chaslang,

    I've done all the above and Norton now scans clean and all is well.

    Attached is the file requested. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks hugely for all your help. Very much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Any binary file that is pretending to be a text file is suspicious. See if you can delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrum242.txt file. If you cannot delete it in normal boot mode, try safe boot. If it appears to delete, check after another reboot to make sure that it remains deleted. Let me know the results.

    If you were able to permanently delete the above file and you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
