I have never put a password on my account or the admin account. I packed up my computer cause I was going out of town and when I got into my hotel room. It booted really slowly and all of a sudden there was a password on my normal login screen. I rebooted into safemode and there is now a password on my admin account also.

I have been having malware problems and have been fighting the good fight with it, so I might have deleted a dll i shouldnt have (i know just enough to get myself into trouble).

    Anyone heard of this before?

I have a Vista computer that has done this. Can't get onto the computer at all. I took out harddrive and installed as a second drive on a XP computer. I cant get into the files needed. It keeps saying access denied. I would also like to know how to get around this. Could it be malware?

If you mysteriously get passwords on your computer then I think it would be malware. Another explanation is that some guy is playing pranks on you.

I think you should try this first

Please start your own new thread in future and not hijack someone else's. Thanks.

I am SOOOOO sorry. I did not mean to hijack his thread (I know ignorance is no excuse). He just asked if anyone else had heard of it, and I had. I do apologize for this and will not repeat the mistake.

Lyrad, as mentioned it could be malware (as mentioned). i had this happen to my cousin's comp (xp) admin acct in safe mode. he swore up and down thought i had set a p/w, but i never did. anyway, g/l - sos

bgarten, it's probably not that big of a deal (but plz don't do it again). they try to keep the threads focused on the original questions (ie - same user). anyway, you might be sol, on retrieving your data from a vista h/d. from what i've been told (i'm not an expert) vistas security is way more advanced, and retrival (sp) from the h/d might not be possible (at this time) for the average user. g/l - sos

    Hi Daryl,

I'm not sure what may have been the cause, but have you tried leaving the password field blank and pressing Enter to see if it will logon for you?

If you have and it actually wants a password, then this tutorial may be able to help you gain access again. In your case you may have to use Method Three.

    Hope this helps you,
