So if I try to view any vids from you tube., I get an error, "don't have Javascript turned on or need to download latest Adobe flash player. Now this happens in both IE and firefox. Also I use ca firewall and antivirus, spyware etc.
    Things I have done:
I checked that I have the latest Adobe flash player. I downloaded it and it did install. I can see it on my add/remove programs list.
I have javascript and it is the latest as I just downloaded it and it is in my add/remove programs list.
I have Java and Javascript checked in my browsers, both IE and firefox.
I have cleaned all temp files, cache.
I have my firewall set to low.
I know I have latest flash and that Javascript is turned on. So why can't I view videos and why do I get error message saying I don't have above?

I got this error message a short while ago and I too was puzzled. After getting this error message I rebooted my pc tried again and it worked fine.

Thanks for th info. I checked and I do have Java. Flash is still a problem. Is it possible that I have a registry problem and that is not allowing me to install the latest flash? If that is so, should I buy one of the reg cleaners or would one of the free ones work? My main goal here is to get flash installed.

Yes I have been to that web site and I do not have flash installed. I can apparently download the install exe and I even run it but if fails to work once installed. In other words, after running the install and it says it has completed the install it is either not installed or does not work once installed. I have rebooted after each step, I have uninstalled via the Adobe uninstaller. i have tried it with turning off my anti virus and my fire wall. I have done a reg clean, I have empty cache and temp files, I have made sure everything is off nothing running except the install.

OK So I have run and rerun and rerun the uninstaller. I reboot each time. I then try to install the flash player. no go. I have tried to install an earlier version. when I download the , say version 8 from the website you recommended and open it, I get folders like r36, r24, r39 etc. So I click on one of these and it opens with a text folder, and several exe folders. So I click on say r39, and it opens a flash exe and I click on it and it shows a "install" but nothing is installed. Nothing. I go to the 'verify you have player installed' web site and nothing is installed. I cannot get this flash installed. Something is blocking it. I don't know what else to try. BTY I have gone through this with ca, my anti virus, firewall provider and they found nothing. We tried shutting down both anti virus and firewall and downloading, nothing. still won't install. I truly don't know if data is being downloaded and the install is not working or if when it downloads, there is nothing, no data, in the download.

Im'e in the same boat here drhugh.
Ive taken all the advice i can find from the web and come to the same conclusion that the flash player is the problem?
Do i have it installed or dont i? methinks not ? Ive added them, ridded them,
    tried earlier versions.
Disabled firewalls, ensured in trusted sights, turned off cookies emptied cookies re-accepted cookies updated java, confirmed java, tried more java,
ridded the lot, shut everything off ,re-installed the lot cleanly?

My overwhelming conclusion (although my system says it is,is that its not,or at least not quite flashed right???

I found a youtube clip of marvin gaye singing mercy mercy me on a biography web site, when i clicked play instead of going to you tube it just played and played fine,Flash player success!
I then went to you tube found the same clip and-
i must have java turned off ?? or an earlier version of flash player????-
    get the latest flash player?????

Ime using firefox and there are quite a few others with the same problem
    using other browsers,
some say IE works but nothing else.
My IE definately dosent nor does any other browser!
Some are wondering if it is an update from firefox that has caused this?

But i am looking more closely at the flash install itself
Is it in or is it not.
All in all ime just going round in circles getting nowhere???:(
    HELP!

In FF, if you have the noscript addon, you have to temporarily allow the site even if java nd jvascript is turned on.
As far as flash, something in Qtime prevens flash from working in FF. I too keep trying to fix it and haven't come up with a solution.

Do you run CCleaner? There is a setting in thre to turn off flash. Check that you do not have it turned off there.
Do You run AdMuncher? Again a setting in there prevents flash from working.
There might be other programs that have the option to turn flash off because it is annoying. You may have to go through a few programs to see if it is turned off somewhere.

Well That is something I have not tried. Do I turn off Qtime? Also How do I determine that Flash is off in CCleaner and how do I, "You may have to go through a few programs to see if it is turned off somewhere." Thanks for this Info plodr.
Headspinner, I am glad to see you have the same problem because this tells me it may not be just my puter. And I am sorry to hear you have the same problem. You find a fix please let me know and I will do the same.

I don't think there is a way to turn off Qtime.
Look thru all the settings in CCleaner. I don't have a windows computer turned on so I can't check.
I have no idea what programs you have installed so again you have to do the investigating on your computer.

Hi all, ime still banging my head at it!
Ok ive loaded up no script and accepted the ultra dangerous -
ALLOW SCRIPTS GLOBALLY -Phew it was scary !!!! i was out on a limb! ha ha

    NO JOY.
I notice that in my error reporting YIMG .COM is been dropped all over the place
    through parsing values?
I read somewhere that YTIMG needs to be allowed to watch youtube vids?
    Go on then?---
So i allow YTIMG access ? and NO SCRIPT still dosent like it( allows 1/3).
So i come back from global access, allow YOUTUBE.COM and NO SCRIPT allows
    1/2 of that?
    Still no joy
I have java +java script ticked in my options,so these should be ok.

Next i find someone from this february recommending an old DLL from 2006
called NP32DSW.DLL ?? he said it worked for him???

so i put it in my mozilla pluggin file as directed, crossed my fingers AND--
    it didnt work. NB****cks

Looking at my error reporting again and it seems that YTIMG is a culprit
but S.YTIMG.COM dosent exist ,at least as a web site anyway?
Strange this one. i found someone else who had noticed this strangeness
There's a bit about it here-
    http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=47483

All of the objects for ytimg are wrong?
Now this article tells you about YOUTUBE hosting its images at YTIMG-
    http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/02/10-similarities-between-youtube-and.html

Of course non of this is getting me to YOUTUBE NIRVANAH
So ime still bashing my head at the wallhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
    :confused

Now RE-INSTALL the latest version of Flash !!

drhugh hi, and this is for anyone else to check out too.

Now i have uninstalled correctly (all web browsers down/no running processes using flash etc)

    Then i have gone to c windows/system32/macromedia/pluggins

    and it is gone.

    Then re-installed -- its in.

then you find its no good, again.

Now look again in pluggins and check the install log ?
Does your install log read the following-

Adobe reader could not open install log because either it is not a
supported file type or because the file has been damaged for example
(it was sent as an email attatchment and wasn't correctly decoded.

??? Why can Adobe reader not read its own file type of flash log?
of course it supports this type of file.
And neither was it sent in an email attatchment?

Strange that i cannot view the install log dont you think?

Can YOU read your install log? i would like to know.

Why does youtube provide a (help) youtube video that you CAN watch
(so i am assuming some form of the flash is working?)
But does not allow you to watch the site videos after following there
instructions to fix to the letter?

Good News:p (for me at least?) Youtubes back up and running!

This worked for me after months of frustration and web searching
for ideas to fix this problem- doing the same things over and over again
    FINALY something thats worked !!!!!!!!!

OK - Put the adobe flash uninstaller on your desktop,

(this next bit is what i think has done it for me)
Shut down ALL processes that could possibly be using flash
in your windows task manager (even those that you dont think will be?)
Just close everything that you dont need running.
( i think that if ANYTHING is running that uses flash and is not completely
ended (note;even though its not even running)corrupts the uninstall !

    NOW! do the flash uninstall.

Then - TOOLS/Private data/ Clean up cache etc-
Then i did a disc clean up getting rid of ALL temporary files,
Then do a Reg clean to get rid of any orphaned files,

    RE- BOOT

Download your flash player ( i used the stand alone for mozilla firefox browser)
And allowed scripts globally as i downloaded it!

Shut down your browser and Then install the player,
(dont know if you have to re-boot again, but i did?)

Now Try it ??? It worked for me:p

I have uninstalled/re-installed/enabled scripts/disabled pop up blockers/Shut down Norton/Tested my player/ ETC ETC ETC till i was blue in the face :cry

The only thing i hadnt done was to shut down any and all possible processes
    that may have flash extensions!!
once i did this it seems to have uninstalled the flash properly.
I can only assume some sort of flash detection (which youtube uses)
was not uninstalled in my earlier uninstalls?
And when i re-installed,this detection was still there saying to youtube
that i hadnt got flash when in fact i had!
This Flash detection is used by some sites and not by others which is why
the player works fine elsewhere and is why Adobe detects your player
as-in and ok,giving you the version you have!

If your at the end of your tether then maybe this might work for you?
    Fingers crossed it does-
    :wave

    Hi James,
Please double check that any ad blockers that you may have running in
protection programmes such as norton, mccaffe etc are ALLOWING ADDS!

If you are blocking them then the install will fail !

Then check in TOOLS/ that your Java (SCRIPT) is deffinately enabled.

Then follow all my steps that i posted up in my (6th ) post which mentions
closing down ALL processes that may be using Flash even if that programme
    is not running!
Just close down everything you do not need to uninstall your flash player
    And Then do the Uninstall.

    Re-boot,

(you should have the flash installer programme on your desktop ready to
    do the install)
If not go and get it but remember to shut down your browser before attempting to re-install it.

Before you Re-install check again that your AD Blockers are NOT blocking.
Also that your java script is STILL enabled !

NOW try to re-install the flash player using the reccomended one for the browser you use.

Hopefully this should sort your problem correctly and give you
    back your youtube.

The whole problem is one of a detection part of the flash player install/uninstall.
and even though you have the latest versions of flash & java,
this part of the old flash players programme remains (for some reason)
if its not uninstalled correctly? .... i think?
and which says to youtubes detector programme
that you have the old version (when clearly you have the new one)
    (GRRRRrrrrrrrrr.. FRUSTRATING!!!! )

    So the important points again-
Allow ads -- do not have ANY AD Blockers on!
Enable Java Script (not just java but JAVA Script)
A Clean Un-install is just as important as a clean install (probably more so)

Un-install flash without anything but the bare minimum reqd to do the un-install still running.
(deffinately closing down anything that may use flash)

    Good Luck...

Below is a possible fix that worked for me.

I have Fedora 11 and Firefox 3.5 on an older Toshiba Tecra TE2100 laptop and
could not view YouTube videos. The error was, to the effect that the latest
FlashPlayer was not installed or that the Javascript was not enabled. I
installed the latest FlashPlayer and made sure all was enabled with still no
    luck.

I went directly to the Adobe Flash Player site and downloaded FlashPlayer 10
for Linux (.rpm) instead of (YUM) and installed it with YUM manually and
this worked for me. The YouTube video and audio both work normally for me
    now.

    Hope this helps!
