I have a PC that i want stripped down to OS with just the basic's left. It takes 5 min to open control panel and believe it's bugged. I don't care about any information because this PC will be a test dummy (lol. crash dummy) for future things. Don't have boot disk or recovery CD. I need some direction, Thx.

Whew, I'd be afraid to use a computer for which I had no boot disk or recovery CD, as a test machine.

If you have the F10 System Recovery option shown at the first start up screen (usually with the HP or Compaq logo), you will probably be given the option to perform a destructive recovery. This means that the hard drive will be formatted and Windows re-installed, and this will definitely eliminate any current bugs. But.... the system restore will only work if you haven't done any hard drive partitioning or erasing before, and the system recovery partition must be intact. Also, these built-in recovery partitions will usually restore the PC to how it was when it left the factory, and LOTS of potentially unwanted software may be installed, like trial versions of an old Norton, MusicMatch Jukebox, possibly a Quicken trial, several ISP setup programs, etc. Be sure to remove all this 'bloat ware' immediately as it may have contributed to the initial slow down of the PC.
