Digital Miscreant Trouble

I've pre-typed this request as my computer is probably about to crash in a few seconds. Apparently I've been infected with some nasty virus slightly more than a week ago. Despite my best efforts, I can't seem to get rid of it, nor even to find out what exactly is causing the problems. Luckily I did manage to run Hijack-this completely just seconds before a crash, so the overview should be quite complete.

For some clarity: the main problem is my computer crashing after about a minute in all but the safe mode. This might either take the form of a warning saying my DCOM Server progress launcher unexpectedly quit, or in the form of my computer instantly freezing, never to respond to any command ever again until reboot. Which also poses the problem of very limited access to the internet, which for example prevents me from downloading SpyBot.
As a small side-note: my AVG virus scanner keeps finding a problem wit a file called expxcee (.exe if I recall properly). This might (or might not) be related.

Now the only question left is: will anyone help me to get rid of these digital miscreants and get my computer to run properly again? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Kopje

edit: adding files as we speak

2 hijack logs, one in safe-mode (more recent) and one in ordinary windows right before a crash. I hope this is enough information.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

We cannot properly remove malware from a PC by only seeing a HijackThis log. I will give you something to try below but you are going to have to complete the READ & RUN ME sticky thread procedure.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {200D0AAD-71B1-51C9-DDB0-092BA4662A54} - C:\Program Files\Ylcebmmw\xddhivin.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dumprep] C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolc.exe
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\sol548.txt
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: hggfcaw - hggfcaw.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winzzd32 - winzzd32.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    • Attach the C:\avenger.txt log to your next message.
Now please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

I thought I had done most of the read & run me, but as it turns out I had still missed some things. A friend with a USB-stick proved to be a great help as well, enabling me to get some software like spybot and cc-cleaner on my pc.

As for deleting java-files: i couldn't because I seemed not to have acces to them. I havn't tried in ordinary windows-mode, but it still freezes in about a minute.

I ran Spybot, finding a few errors, of which the most prominent was virtumonde. the other two I dont recall exactly anymore (I coulnd't find a log-function) but where something like bluestreak and something with (for me) seemingly random letters and numbers, but which included the word 'pinch'. As the specified tool (vundofix) for removing virtumonde could not locate any suspicious file, I used Spybot to take care of the file.

I also followed your steps, resulting in the logs added to the post.

thanks for what you've done already. It's really nice to have some help in this messy business :)

No you actually have not run quite a lot of it. You have not run ComboFix and attached the log, you have not run AVG Antispyware and attached the log, and you have not run the MGtools and attached the log from it.

As things stand right now with only seeing your HijackThis log we are finished. But that does not say much because you are not running it properly and that is why you need to run MGtools which would automatically run it properly.

Are you still having problems? If so decribe them in detail and complete all steps in the READ & RUN ME in the order written. Then attach the requested logs from the READ ME.

What is the below process I see running? What is drive D?
    d:\d7e96ed0d8354ab0208855d28566769b\setup.exe

I'm finally done with some horrible exams and deadlines, so I'd like to continue trying to fix my computer. I've printed the entire read and run me first guide as to not make any stupid mistakes again, and I hope I've done better this time. All went well until I tried running MGtools, which couldn't finish because it couldn't locate a .dll or something. The logs will probably tell you a lot more and tell it a lot clearer.
As for the d:\ process, I don't have a clue what it does. The d-drive is called backup, and all I know is that I never actively used it...

I hope someone is still interested in helping me, as once again help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

    Kopje

p.s.: the MGtools log has v1 attached to it because I tried reinstalling MGtools to see if a different result would come up. I got the impression it didn't, but if it's necessary, I've still got the v2 as well.

Why are your logs from Safe Boot Mode?

You are badly infected. Many of your applications have a Win32.Agen.zb infection and will have to be uninstalled. Then you will have to reinstall them if you need them. The below is the list that was seen as infected in your ComboFix log:

I suggest that you begin by uninstalling the below which should be the easiest ones to reinstall later for new clean downloads (if you really need them - don't reinstall if you don't use them)
    Dell\Media Experience
    AVG7
    Google Toolbar
    Skype\Phone
    DAEMON Tools
    MSN Messenger
    Download Manager

All of the others that are infected need to be fixed too but you will have to see if you have the software for reinstalling them.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O23 - Service: PnkBstrA - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    Driver::
    mguxcfyn
    Ckn50
    DirLook::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fibagbia
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmm32

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mguxcfyn.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Ckn50.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\expxcee.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\exreaww.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\cqmdyabu.txt
    C:\Program Files\gnrdg^qw.txt
    C:\Documents and Settings\Joske de Jong\kolenkor.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Joske de Jong\libcurl.dll
    d:\d7e96ed0d8354ab0208855d28566769b\setup.exe

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{13b6d674-000f-11dc-b6b8-0019d145f6ee}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

well, I'm posting from my own pc again, so that's certainly an improvement... I was running in safe-mode as the main problem was not being able to run in normal mode for longer than a minute. Trying to finish the run & read me in one minute didn't seem manageable.

I've done all you suggested, and it all seems to work ok again. I hope this could be the conclusion of my problems, but we'll see. I wait until the final verdict before reinstalling anything anyways.

I just want to add that I am really happy with all the help. Thank you ever so much,

    You're welcome!

Does this folder name look familiar? C:\WINDOWS\system32\fibagbia
What about the files in the folder and notice the dates of the files? You can also see the list of files in the last ComboFix log since I asked combofix to show me what was in this folder. These seem quite suspicious. I know last year ComboFix used to remove them.

We made a lot of progress with that last fix but there is a little more to do and some new file names/drivers showed up that are problems. Before I can create a fix, I need to know about the above fibagbia folder and files which could be the cause of these new issues.

I don't recognise the folder or the name, nor do I recall anything about the date. I hope it's no problem that I saw the miniatures of the files. Some of the image showed something about internet security, but I don't belive I was very much into that yet around that time.

I've downloaded and installed some protetion for my pc (outpost and spywareblaster) so I can use it once again to reply. but i guess i turned a little squeemish about using my pc now. can I already use it again, or should I keep usage to a minimum?

    once again a big thanks,

Let's do the below first before you return to normal use.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WLCtrl32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WLCtrl32.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!

    C:\WINDOWS\LastGood.Tmp
    Folder::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fibagbia

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\WLCtrl32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Jmb56.sys

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

I just ran the suggested actions, and everything's still working :). While checking this site to check for new suggestions, I saw with Outpost that I was contacting remote locations like crazy. I unplugged the net and ran the suggestions. The contacting seems to have stopped, so that seems good. Oh, I did get a blue screen when ComboFix tried to reboot the system - the system froze, so I had to turn it off myself. I don't know if any of this is actually related, but I guess it's better to tell you too much than too little.

I still will be using my pc sparsely untill your next reply, just to be on the safe side. Once again a major, major thank you,

You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
