    Hi,
I have a problem installing the drivers of my sound cardi n Windows XP Home SP2. I have already installed the Q888111 hotfix, but when I am trying to install the drivers (VIA VT1612A AC97 - AMILO M7405) from fujitsu 's site I get the message "NoAudioChip - entry not found in the string table".
Any help? I send you the everest report of my notebook.

You seem to have the right audio driver.
Try installing the chipset driver for your PC, first, then install the audio.
I'm sorry but I can't link directly to the page, that site won't let me, but here is the Amilo M7405 driver support page there. Just enter your OS.

Do you know why your Everest report would have entries like this?
It doesn't look like an actual language.

    Thanks for your reply!
I have already installed the chipset driver but the problem still exists. The unknown language in everest report is greek, that's why you can't read it!
Is it possible that my soundcard does't work at all?

It is possible your chip that your chip could be faulty, but it can also be a couple other things.

Is the Windows Audio service running?
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
Right click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

BIOS sound must be enabled for on-board sound... Disabled for an add-on card
As the PC starts, press one of these keys (here is a list by manufacturer) http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
Or the right key will be posted on the very first screen. Tap it until you enter set-up, then look for your audio (it should be in Advanced or Integrated Periphials) Make sure sound is set correctly.

    Goto Start>Run and type dxdiag.exe
    Press Enter.
    In the System tab:

What version of DirectX do you have?
    In the Sound Tab:
    What is your Device ID?
    Is it the default device?
    Are there problems?

Use Device Manager: What does it say there?
To open Device Manager: Start>Control Panel> System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, then click the plus sign in front of Sound, Video, Game Controllers.
In Device Manager, if there is a ? in front of your audio device, that means no audio driver is installed. A ! means driver installation attempted but with problems.
If your audio device is showing, right click on it and choose Properties.
Click on Details, click the little arrow in Property and scroll down to problem code and choose it. What code do you get?

Sorry, I didn't recognize the Greek letters, although I did see the Greek letters, I knew, in there, too.

Thanks again for your immediate reply. I have tried all that you proposed and the results are:

    Yes, it is.

I could not find this kind of information in BIOS. The options in BIOS Menu are: Main - Advanced - Security - Power Boot - Exit. In the Advanced menu there are only these options: IDE configuration - Touchpad support - LCD AutoDimm Function. BIOS version is 1.02c and KBC version (I don't know what it is) is 1.03

    DirectX version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Sound: It says (in greek) that 'no soundcard found. If there is, be sure to install drivers'

Also, in Device Manager there isn't my audio device

That is weird not having a sound option in your BIOS. I downloaded your manual and couldn't find where, exactly, that option would be, but I am sure it would be in Advanced.
I am guessing that your chip was either forgotten in manufacturing (doesn't sound plausible) or took a dump on you. Try contacting tech support at Fujitsu-Siemens. Click the "I would like to.. "heading and then "Get Technical Support"

I contact tech support at Fujitsu-Siemens in Greece and they told me that maybe my soundcard is faulty. I decided to buy a new external soundcard and never buy a fujitsu-siemens again!

Thanx a lot for your help, i really appreciate it!
