Vista actually has some great security elements introduced to the OS that make it far superior to it's predecessor, XP. Vista also comes with Windows Defender.

So, it is safe, but you need to add your own anti-virus software, such as Avast, and malware cleaning software. You will find such advice in this link

Computers crash occasionally. Mostly that depends on what you are doing to it, and if it is within the capabilites of it's spec. That is a diferent issue to security.

What exactly are you wanting to know? Be more precise in your questions.

If your just basing your opinons of what you hear from random people, ignore them. Vista works fine. Even through many people "hate" on vista.

Vista is very good for security straight out of the box. How do you reckon it's not safe?

Likewise (except the Yahoo games, I have enough of a backlog of real games right now). Looking at the people around me, the vast majority of Vista problems turned out to be caused by misunderstandings between Vista and the user... Vista is not XP. Things are not where they were in XP and may not work as they did in XP. It's a new system and it may take a while to learn. If your mother is computer savvy, it won't take her long.
