Our family has recently signed up to play Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean Online MMORPG game so we would have something to play with the kids, but it works on only one of my four computers. All are Dell. The one that it works on is the oldest. All are hardwired with Cat 5e cable to a home network. None are wireless. The one that works is not the main computer for the home network.

Here are the specs for the one we CAN play on.

    Dell Dimension 8300
    Windows XP SP2
    Processor - 3ghz Intel Pentium 4
    Graphics Card - Radeon 9800 128mb
    Ram - 1 gig
    Hard drive - 150gig (138gig free)
All Drivers are up to date per Driver Detective

Here is the specs for the three that Crash as soon as you click on "Play".

    Dell Dimension 9100
    Window XP Sp2
    Processor - 3.5ghz Intel Pentium 4
    Graphics Card - Nvidia 6800 256mb
    Ram 1 to 1.5 gig
Hard drives - All over 150 with at least 125gig free
All Drivers are up to date per Driver Detective.

I have changed Modems and Routers, but nothing helps. The answer has to be simple but POTC support hasn't got a clue. All they keep saying is it has to be my ISP. I told them if one runs, they all should run. I even by-passed the router and that didn't work either.
I have uninstalled all my firewalls and virus protection. I also have turned off windows firewall.
The computers that will not play POTC are all newer with next generation graphics cards over the one that will play. And believe me I have all the latest updates on all hardware on each machine. I get a game disconnect and loud crashing sound then a window that says "Your Internet Connectionto the Servers has been unexpectedly broken"as soon as I click play.
I have the Directx 10. I have DirectX 9. Also tried several drivers from the Nvidia archives and nothing seems to work. Just weird problem. Have even changed Routers from Linksys to Belkin. Also changed ISP from cable to DSL. The nVidia drivers are supposed to be next generation drivers from the Radeon driver on the computer that works on POTC.

    Hi

You mention you have directx10? DirectX10 is not available for Windows XP and if you have the unsanctioned alpha version thats floating around the internet then this is very very unstable and some games may not work correctly with it, as you will also need a DirectX10 capable graphics card and Windows Vista, which the two graphic cards and Windows versions you list are not.

I do gather that the POTC servers are always throwing out that message of disconnection as its a popular game and they cannot handle the capacity as yet.

Your problem could lie in either the hacked alpha version of DX10 or just a server capacity issue and/or your internet connection speed not able to handle more than one steady stream of data, online games go tend to eat up bandwidth, so if one PC is ok on it, the others may get kicked off.

Try not connecting with the one that works, but one of the others only.. does it work ok or not? if it does disconnect the game and try on one of the others, do this in turn with all, this will if they all work individually narrow the issue to your connection speed, as 4 PCs will all connecting to the net and playing a bandwidth hungry game cause random connection issues causing disconnections from game servers.

I only downloaded the DX10 on one computer last week as a last resort. knew it was a Vista Program. But when desperate.......
Have tried all computers without any being on the game but still only the oldest works. We should have plenty of bandwith with cable modem.
Maybe something to do with the ports in the router, but I dont know how to add them or disable port forwarding or port triggering to port 7667 as Disney suggested.
    Thanks for your help

Also, one thing that stands out right away is the computer that runs the game as a Radeon card. The three that don't run the game have nVidia cards.

    Drivers?

Have the latest drivers for the nVidia graphics cards. The nVidia cards are supposed to be next generation over the Radeon card. Weird problem. Have a feeling it is in the router or modem but don't really know how to check any of this.

If it is a router problem then by-passing the router and trying the game on one of the new computers directly connected to the modem may identify that problem not sure if you have done that already.

Also to check and edit settings on the router use IE explorer and go to the router IP address check your user manual before hand you might need password the ip is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 you can port forward if you want but you can only forward one port to one computer i think so you best bet would to set it to an open NAT type if you want all the computers to run it. I dont know though if that is the problem if the computer is crashing as you say with sounds maybe its simply a graphics card issue.

    Thanks Bob,
I have already tried all the above solutions. I am now working directly with Nvidia trying to solve the problem. I agree it is a graphics card issue because I have tried everything else. Thanks again.
