Flash in Vista

So Vista is slowly driving me to murder again. I am trying to listen to ESPN online radio but in Firefox it flat out refuses to work at all. So, being a not entirely stupid girl, I open IE7 and try there. I get an error message telling me that the radio requires Flash 8 or higher.

    Hm.

Something is wrong here, I know I have Flash 9.

So I searched the forums and found this thread, followed the advice in it about uninstalling and reinstalling flash. I put a reboot in between, for good measure. I have dropped every possible security I can think of, from the Vista firewall to allowing IE7 to do literally anything. Still no radio.

Now what do I do? :confused

I was going to edit my post, but the edit button timed out. Sorry.

Anyways. I was going to add that I haven't been able to find the correct ports to open in my router, despite extensive googling.

The link your going to is this one http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/index as I just need to recreate this issue, but using the ESPN radio works for me without the need for Flash as it uses WMP to run the playback of the radio.

IIRC your running 64bit Vista? and sadly Flashplayer is not yet 64bit compatible http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=6b3af6c9

I was looking to see if they had a URL link to adding the radio to WMP direct but they dont its only accessable online.

Yes I totally agree with you Mimsy, not as if Vista and 64bit OSes have been snuck in under the radar.

Just a wild thought and I cannot test as I back on 32bit Vista for a while, is that x64 comes with two program files folders, try running the below IE

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

if it works, then add a shortcut to your Start Menu or Desktop, worth a try ast least as the ActiveX Flash for 32bit "may" install ok.

And that is my entire complaint. Granted ,it's not a majority of the market yet, but it's not exactly new or secret either. Blarg.

I'm going to put it in the 32-bit programs folder later and see what happens... will report back with results eventually.

Just one of the many reasons I not migrated to x64 fully as yet..... MSFT have the software out there for us all to take advanantage of our 64bot hardware but sadly spoilt by many 3rd parties not wishing to take the time to develope applications for x64.

Well they best get a shift on as Windows Vista is likely to be the last 32bit OS from MSFT.

Yes please do on the feedback as I know others have similar issues and if you test this sucessfully then we are go for a fix/workaround.

    Not working.

The problem is two-edged. The first one is that Adobe Flash doesn't let me specify a folder to install to. The second is that as I started looking, it seems that I am already in a 32-bit browser, every time I use my Firefox.

So it looks like I will just have to resign myself to a flash-deprived existence, until Adobe gets their stuff together. I'll try not to hold my breath waiting.

    That worked! :celebrate

ESPN Radio now has sound. Unfortunately, it is the sound of Sam Cassell, who is not in any way a favorite of mine, but it is till a good thing. I will wait for the next NBA game to start, and then test that channel as well, just to make sure.

    Woohoo :)

I dont know why I never thought of this one earlier as I have been testing FF3 (minefield) and use this WMP plugin from MSFTs Port25 group, but glad it was the fix and sorry your favoured sports radio guy is not on at present.

My favored guy actually doesn't do a lot of radio interviews at all lately. the ones he does give are posted on the Yahoo! Sports website, so I'm good for now.

    Go Lakers! :celebrate
