What could a child that small do to deserve that kind of treatment? The mother claims she was trying to calm the child, a hug works much better. A teenager driving you that crazy, understandable rolleyes but a baby. Nothing a child that small should be treated like that.
Heard on the news this morning a doctor checked out the baby with no physical damage, hell, how about the fact of your mother doing that is damage enough.
GRRRR, makes me sooo angry !!!

I don't think they're going to do anything to her :(

Social services and child welfare authorities usually get alerted to these situations...investigations usually/should follow. It is still a form of child abuse, so not tolerated.

If that's what the mother and another female do to a child in a public area, I shudder to think what is done to that child behind closed doors...and that same thought would be going through authorities minds.

"Still a form of" is a little light, IMO - those things HURT!! (This coming from a paintball player)

Sometimes they're powerful enough to take the paint off your car! No little girl should have that put on her!!

Mada, there are different forms of child abuse, such as physical, mental, emotional, sexual, etc. Without pinpointing the specific type of abuse, that is what I meant by "It is still a form of child abuse, so not tolerated". Believe me, I was aware how much it would have hurt that little girl...it was obvious enough the way she was avoiding the spray.:)

Sorry, LS... wasn't meant to put you on the defensive. Just sort of used it as a segue to comment how powerful the spray can be.

The news this morning said the baby was examined by a doctor and after finding nothing the matter will go unpunished. She saw the video on TV and turned herself in. What bull, bet they change their mind after public outcry. The woman is pregnant too. They were going to check where she lives to see how many children there were between her and the other woman with her. She (other woman) apparently thought nothing, did nothing.

I would have been surprised if she hadn't been arrested...she would have been arrested and charged here for that. If first offense, she may get off "light" and with something imposed according to your legal system over there. I reckon there'll be some future monitoring for the child's sake which as you mentioned could fall under "child rearing counselling".

Like Mada pointed out, that spray hurts an adult, so image a child.

My daughter was telling me the other day a friend of hers, her ex-husbands relative of some sort, newlywed, don't know who's child it was, got so annoyed the baby (yep baby, 2 yes old) kept getting out of bed he beat it. Next day the grandmother found bruises and the babies head swelled, (crap- this is making me cry trying to tell it) took it to the hosp where it died.

Well, be interesting to follow that mongrel's court case...wonder how long your courts set for infanticide. Inmates will soon show him what it's like to get beaten up each time he cries.

Yes, I have heard even the hardest of criminals do not take kindly to child abusers.
