Health care in the USA isn't bad :confused

It could be a lot better if we didn't have so many Deadbeat Illegal Aliens Sucking the life out of our system

Ya, monied folk do go there from Canada and that's fine as it's their money and they can do as they please with it. I could care less what they do. Where do your 47M uninsured go for health care?

What happens to the under insured when a loved one gets sick and they go bankrupt losing everything and possibly including their loved one. Why have your politicians even encouraged seniors to come here and buy their meds in Canada which we pay for in taxes? Take care of your own before leaching on our system!

Why would the need arise in such a rich country as yours in needing RAM to help out the poor? Health Charity for Developing World Finds Work in U.S.

Here's a bit of the story:
Now I know that our medical system is far from perfect, but it's way better when one can go to a doctor at the first signs of a problem and 'nip it in the bud' if possible but when folk stay away from the system because it either means the difference between paying rent/eating or getting some help is inexcusable and ultimately costs more.

One thing I found interesting is that gun victims get plenty of care, and I mean the gang bangers, besides the prisoners who get better care than a good fraction of your population.

I'll end this rant as many have already fallen asleep by now and I apologize for this. I see you commented on bazza's qualifications to comment on US healthcare, even with a smiley, how much do you really know about our system?;)

I'm sure the Europeans will have something else to add here. /end rant

For basic health care? Any number of decent, free clinics (there are three that I know of within a 30min drive of where I live).

Emergency health care? Call 911, and an ambulance will come and take you to the nearest hospital where you will receive medical care.

Long term programs? Medicare for the elderly; Medicaid for those who are under a certain income level or meet other criteria. Granted, both the Medicare and Medicaid programs leave much to be desired . . . and I have no doubt that there are those who have their horror stories about either program - I can give examples on either side of the debate - but the point is health care is available in one form or other, even if you aren't a citizen of this country.

To me, the only argument is the level and quality of that care - and that argument that can be applied to socialized systems such as Canada's, etc. I'm sure there are those here who have stories on either side of the debate for these systems, as well.

ASUS has a point about illegal aliens having a negative impact on this issue in the US. Estimates range between 14 and 20 million undocumented persons being in the country - a staggering number, considering the last population census I saw for Canada was around 34 million persons . . .

But, let's stop hijacking this thread. This is about the residents of Sierra Leone, who apparently, couldn't even imagine a debate like this!

Cheap shot, ASUS. I don't have to try arsenic to know that it is poisonous. I don't have to live in the USA to hear about USA Health Care either.

If you occasionally have to sell your house to pay for a proceedure, then I'd say USA Health care needs improvement. Lots of TV shows show the dire result of USA citizens not having adequate Health Care Insurance.

We are not perfect about Health Care here in OZ, either, but AUD$100 per month, single, will cover you for lots of proceedures, whether you have job, unemployed or a pensioner. Bazza

    Thanks Mada_Milty for you comment.
That was the point I was trying to make. I guess I could have compared SL Health Care to OZ Health Care, but as there are lots more USA members, here at MG, I chose USA.

I love Sierra Leone, but it was ruined by corrupt politicians since Independence in 1966, Civil War (the Blood Diamond movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio was an example) and is now just starting to improve the lives of their citizens.

Hell, they even have electricity on in their capital city, sometimes.
