OK, im by no means a computer guru, so I am here for a little help. I have a gateway computer and dail-up internet (i know...im in the sticks, all i can get). I have 2 different phone lines to my house, one i want to use for my main phone and one i want to use for my internet connection. Now, however, my internet is connecting through my main phone line/number. My question to you is how do i go about switching the number (internet connection) to the other phone number. You know so the internet will stop using my main phone number and use the other one for dail up to the internet.

    Thanks in advance.:cool

you have to make sure you plug your phone line (from your comp) into the 2nd phone line (the line you want to use) into the jack on the wall. do you actually have a 2nd phone jack? or do you have a multiline phone with 1 phone jack? g/l, sos

hmm, i'm sure they sell some type of adapter. anyway, the 1st line is the 2 middle pins, and the outer 2 pins should be line #2. see if these links help, i have not read them myself, but i know how to do it. if your in the states, maybe check radioshack, or local electronics store. i'll be back in a few. i'm sure you'll get other comments if your still stuck. g/l, sos

Example....Its kinda like call-waiting, i guess...lets say, if you call 555-5555 that is my number (main number), but if you call 555-4444 that is my number also...make sense? Anyway, i just want to be able to connect to the internet with the 555-4444 number (2nd line) so the main phone number is free to take calls.

    Thanks for your replys!!

    I am in the states.

as far as i know (i could be wrong), there is no way to tell it to dialup on line #1 or line #2. what is the os on your comp, and what kind of modem? that is why i was saying that you might need some type of adapter, or make one yourself. anyway, g/l - sos

you need something like this, but i'm sure you can find something cheaper. i want to say i've seen a small splitter like maybe 2-3 inches long, but it's been a while. g/l - sos

"Brand new 2 (two) line RJ11 telephone cord splitter. On one end this splitter plugs into a 2 (two) line wall phone jack. After about 6 inches it splits to Line 1 (10 feet) and Line 2 (10 feet). Perfect for telephony voice cards that have two lines per plug. Perfect for at home or at the office splitting your 2 (two) lines from the wall jack to 2 (two) separate devices such as telephone, fax, modem, etc." <-- this is a quote from the link i provided

http://www.radioshack.com/home/index.jsp <-- i'd still give them a try, not sure if you have one around where your at?
