Not sure which fan to replace?

Its seems that nowadays, I've been having issues with a fan in my tower. I also should add that my computer shuts down when I'm playing music or working in Adobe Photoshop.

I downloaded both SpeedFan and Everest Home edition.

    SpeedFan results read-

    Fan 1 - 4688 RPM
Temp 1 - 69C (this one has a little flame next to it)

    Fan 2 - 1940 RPM
    Temp 2 - 31C

    Fan 3 - 0 RPM
Temp 3 - -20C (this one is has a green checkmark next to it)

    HD0 - 30C

I'v also reduced Speed01 down from 100% to 45% because it was running too loud, now its a little quieter. Temp 1 can go anywhere from 60C to 96C.

However, I did download Everest and got these results-

    Temperatures
    Motherboard 30 °C (86 °F)
    CPU 69 °C (156 °F)
    Seagate ST3100011A 30 °C (86 °F)

    Cooling Fans
    CPU 4561 RPM
    Chassis 1940 RPM

    CPU Properties
CPU Type Intel Celeron D 340
    CPU Alias Prescott-256
    CPU Stepping E0
    Engineering Sample No
    CPUID CPU Name Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.93GHz
    CPUID Revision 00000F41h

    CPU Speed
CPU Clock 2932.61 MHz (original: 2933 MHz)
    CPU Multiplier 22.0x
CPU FSB 133.30 MHz (original: 133 MHz)
    Memory Bus 166.63 MHz

    Motherboard Properties
    Motherboard ID 01/25/2005-i845G-W627-6A69VM4YC-00
    Motherboard Name MSI Gamila/Giovani/Neon Series

The thing is, I've asked other people what fan I need to replace and told them the results I got from the SpeedFan software. One person told me I need a case fan and someone else told me I need a CPU fan.

I have no experience with hardware so I am not sure what product I should get.

I used a compressed duster on two fans and removed the dust off both of them. But when I turned my computer back on, one of them is still running like crazy.

I looked up 2 case fans
    (
APEVIA CF12SL-UBL 120mm Blue LED Case Fan for like 7 bucks
    &
Antec TriCool 120MM PC Case Fan for twenty dollars
    )

and I'm not sure what CPU fan I would need (if I need one at all)
I did find one for a reasonable price at NewEgg-
    MASSCOOL 5R057B3 60mm Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink $8.99

So, sorry if I provided a lot of information. I guess what I'm asking (since I'm hardware illiterate)-

    1. What Fan do I need (CPU, Case, or both)?
    2. Would either one matter? (If the problem is the CPU fan, could I just get a case fan instead?)
    3. Are they easy to install?

definitely sounds like a CPU fan. Have you taken the side pannel off the computer to verify that the CPU fan is spinning? Even though Speedfan reads that your CPU fan is spinning, at 4000+ RPM, doesn't mean it's accurate, these sensors can be misleading. Also when opening your case make sure that there is no dust or dirt clogging the CPU's heatsink. Also consider moving the tower to an area that is not enclosed, such as inside a cabinet or desk, if it is.

Keep in mind temps generally over 75 C is overheating and can cause damage to the CPU. Do not reduce the fan speed, the reason it is running so loud is due to the high temperature, higher temps > higher speed.

The other thing you can try is running the computer with the side pannel off if cleaning doesn't help.

    69 degrees C, ouch, that's very hot :(

It's doubtful anything but the CPU could generate that much heat, so I'd say it's the CPU, or the heatsink badly fitted. Either way it's not good and needs to be sorted because you're slowly killing it by running it too hot

Is it definitely a 2.93 Ghz CPU, or is it a much slower one that has been overclocked? That would account for the very hot temperature too

I'd expect it to be around 40 degrees C and probably a lot cooler if the correct size heatsink and fan is fitted and someone hasn't skimped or gone overboard with the thermal paste

I have no idea  Sorry if I'm not helping on your part but I have no clue what overclocking is...

The fan that is causing the problems is this small one connected to this box that looks like a filter (so I'm guessing its the CPU fan & the heatsink) and not the case fan. Its made by coller master and not AMD...Both fans are moving, its just the small one thats blowing out hot air....really hot air. I have the cover off now and its still not helping the problem.

I know the electronic stores around my house do not sell them (just the thermal compound) but I found a reasonable one online.

Well I opened the case this morning and did some research online. The fan is by Cooler Master and is this model .

The electronic stores around my house do not sell heatsinks/coolers; only the case fans. So I guess I need to order one ASAP. I doubt if I get the same brand since it is not that quiet...

I'm not sure what overclocking is :confused. Sorry if I'm not being much of a help.

Check just to be sure that there is not dust or dirt on the CPU heatsink that could be blocking or restricting the airflow. If it is clean, the heatsink may be seated improperly or has come out of place from vibration, or shock. May want to reseat the heatsink, because it may not be seated properly, as mikkh mentioned, but be careful when removing the heatsink. Let the CPU cool off, and when removing the heatsink watch that the CPU doesn't stick to the heatsink, it's ok if it happens, just be careful that you dont bend any of the pins on the CPU. If this were to happen to remove the CPU from the heatsink use a twisting motion to twist off the CPU, never pull on the CPU or pry it off with a screwdriver. Because there's something that doesn't make sense it shows that the CPU fan spins over 4000 RPM.

Also when you take off the heatsink look and see how much thermal grease is on the CPU. If there is a lot or very little, this could be part of the problem, as mentioned earlier. If there is none, you can apply thermal grease, use no more than a beade sized amount (a little less than pea sized). Too much thermal grease will go all over the place and make a mess, not enough will not cool the CPU properly. When re-attaching the heatsink, make sure it is fastened in place, this is a Socket 478, there are two hooks and levers, make sure that the brackets are not broken, this is a common problem on the 478's caused from heat and vibration. The hooks must go in place and the levers must go all the way over (like a criss cross).

Illistrations might explain this better if you're not sure on things...just let me (us) know.

yes please! I'd love to see an illustration of the heatsinks! I'd like to find them on my PC as well so I can get an idea how to clean them!

    Thanks!
