I can't tell you how many I have lost (to frost) the one I have now I dug up when the rock was going in and in, to put in a pot until it became larger, It has variegated leaves, I didn't notice that at first was attracted to the color of the blossoms mostly which are rather were a peach color. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

This isn't exactly gardening being it's on my window sill but thought it was unusual, found it on the sale cart, a succulent called Baby Toes, they were all short and even when I got it, have no idea what it's supposed to look like. Guess I could look it up, huh? rolleyes

Wow, your pencil plant is big, thought it was small. I saw one when I got the Baby Toes (they are tiny, by the way) it was probably a 4" pot and was not cheap. Is that a birds nest fern? Don't think I've seen one with wavy leaves. It's amazing the new plants coming up all the time.

lol...I have no idea what the fern is. I was walking through the store where I got it and even the employees were saying wow, that's a neat plant.

I've had my pencil cactus for 2-3 years, so it's gotten bigger.

Yep Kes:), it looks like the same.Yours looks to be a bit fuller since it's smaller. Did you just get it? It gets little leaves on it when it's growing. I love mine and get comments on it...haha...both good and bad. Just be careful because if you bruise the stems, I've heard some people are allergic to the white sappy stuff that comes out.

I just had to put all my house plants outside. They (one in particular) was infested with little flys of some sort. It was getting worse day by day. I poured bleach down all the drains, emptied my humidifier, put the fruit in the fridge. Doing all I can think of to keep from using insecticides, don't like using any chemical inside or outside. Any suggestions anyone?

I planted these on the 9th March,I kept them at a constant 22C degrees for a week until they sprouted then moved them to the window ledge to get some light and are now at a constant 18C.

They are ordered hottest to mildest left to right I've planted 3 Habanero,3 scotch Bonnet,6 cayenne and 6 jalapeño,as you can see from the pics the hottest are the hardest to germinate.

Haha make fun of my label spellings:D

Allow me to define geek gardener for you. No dirt. No sun. No bugs.

Bought one, loved it, now have 2, considering getting 3, cant grow huge stuff like cucumbers, but didnt want to waste that much space and money. On the left is 3 different types of peppers from real hot to hot to pretty hot. On the right is herbs including basil, thyme, oregano, savory, chives, parley and 2 others. These take longer, thats 4 weeks to the days growth, but things like lettuce would have had me eating salad after 4 weeks. Going to try mini roses on next round and maybe peppers again. Aero Garden rocks.

That's a skeery neat table for your 'garden' MA. :D

Gotta say, I never thought of growing produce in my house. Nice. Of course, I kill house plants, so not sure how well I'd do with them.

The herb one would be great for my kitchen though since I cook a ton.

Yeah, its an old "card table". Brown thumb myself here. The kits are pre-engineered, herbs are a tad more complicated because your growing 7 at a time, so different pruning. Lettuce, I literally planted and ate 4 weeks later, then re-harvest. Peppers require you prune off additional small plants early on, thats about it. Adjust the height of the lights as it grows within an inch. Lights are bright, so I have it in my office, this way I never use my office lights saving the electricity I use for the garden :)

Aside from that, 2 things you need:

1: Add 2 nutrient tablets every 2 weeks and fill with water (a flashing light can remind you)
2: More water needed as things grow.

    Check it out

MMM, I didnt think it was expensive to be able to garden, like you, its out from October till April and you can get useable food from it :) Price should come down as popularity goes up hopefully.

True. Actually, thinking of how much money I spend on one 'bunch' of herbs from the grocery store that I wind up throwing out half of it because I only need a tbsp or so, it's really not that much. I Do like the idea of snipping herbs in my kitchen.

As far as outside pics, I just want it to get warm so things start blooming. Some of my periennials are popping out of the ground a bit.:)

Thats true. You can also start plants using any seeds, then move outside. Im doing mini roses next round. My wife also mentioned herbs are readily available cheaply in stores, wish she told me that 4 weeks and 20 dollars ago!

Neat-o hydro setup, Major. The units I designed many years back, were a polystyrene container/trough type of setup, with pumps to circulate the nutrients, and halogen lights. They were way bigger - just about needed a room set up just for it. But having a virtual jungle that grew about 6-9" per day looked pretty cool, I'll admit. ;)

  33. Major Attitude

Major Attitude Co-Owner MajorGeeks.Com Staff Member

Yes, they sell all that at Hydroponic Shops around the states, I would like to do that, but they require a lot of space and with my luck, i would be watched and door kicked in thinking i was growing pot due to power useage ;) I may go to a small setup, like 24 trays one of these day. Will have to send pics when my peppers grow, few more weeks I think.

Awesome! Ive been harvesting herbs (well my wife really) from my AeroGarden and using them in all sorts of dishes, pretty cool. My peppers are about 2 weeks from growing and harvesting, I will have to post some pics when they are ready.

Wonderful pictures, Emma. I have never seen "Creeping Charlie's" (3rd picture) planted anywhere other than in a pot.
That looked , so strange. LOL
And that tall planter box is cool, too. If my wife sees that, I'm going to have a project to do.
We are just getting past the frost stage. It was 20°F yesterday at 5am. But that should have been the last of it.
I was going to plant some grass seed today but we're having 25mph winds with 40mph gusts and I don't want to seed the neighbor's yard. roflmao

This is the type of plant I'm thinking of, Emms. It usually is in a hanging basket and can get pretty thick and long. I don't know what it's real name is, but i think it's also called "Swedish Ivy."

No, Darlene. We only moved in here last year and the lawn was in poor shape. I am just trying to filling some of the thinner areas in the front and some larger bare spots in the back.

The yard is looking great, Kes!

I just went out to buy two new shrubs to replace dead one. The one I just noticed was dead. It just rotted or something. It was one of my faves. :cry

Yes, Darlene. Grass actually weathers well under all that snow. Just a bit of thatching in the Spring and you are usually good to go.
