No internet access during "Safe mode with networking"

No internet during Safe Mode With Networking (SMWN)

My Setup
Windows Vista
LAPTOP -> ethernet cable -> dsl modem (PPOE)
***I don't have a home network - just hardwired standalone puter***
Kaspersky suite

Problem
"Network Connection" cant find my dsl connection
It won't even let me create a new connection while in SMWN

COMMENTS
This used to work, I don't know what changed!!!
Everything works dandy in regular mode
Obviously I need to manually start a service -WHICH ONE???

 

I am having the exact same problem. Trying to fix my dad's PC using logmein.com safe mode option but does not connect to the Internet.

He has a Windows Vista Home Premium 32bits SP1. I asked him to press F8 and use the Option Safe Mode with Networking and still won't connect to the Internet. He is using Verizon DSL and a NIC card to connect a Realtek RL8139/810x Family.

I tried to troubleshoot and rebooted my custom PC running Windows Vista Ultimum 64bits SP1 and I have the same exact problem. I have Verizon FIOS, connectiong with a Marvell Yukon 88E8056
