With the ever increasing number of new folks joining Major Geeks as members, and even for the oldies stuck in their ways, I thought it might be a help to point out there is a way to change the way you read the Major Geeks threads, and the posts in them.

It is much quicker to review the latest posts FIRST and really helps if there are more than 1 page of posts in a thread, IMO.

    Try this:-
    1. Click on your nickname. (example, bigbazza, in my case)
    2. Then click on User CP (in the headings)
    3. Then click on Edit Options (under Control Panel)
    4. Scroll down to Thread Display Options
    5. In the box beside Thread Display mode, you will probably see "Linear - Oldest First" (MG default?)
    6. Set this to "Linear - Newest First" for a different way of viewing.
    7. Give it a try for a week.

I prefer "Newest first" as I only have to view from the latest to around 24 hours ago, when I was last on Major Geeks.

Try it. Think outside the box. :) Bazza

PS: Let us know if you try / change / like / don't like this method of reading the posts. Baz

    lol...that's the default, Bazza.

I immediately looked for a way to change it to oldest first when I joined, as I prefer to read in the actual order of the posts as opposed to going backwards.

If it's a thread I've been keeping up with, I just click on last page.

I think "oldest first" was the default when I joined in 2004. :confused

I prefer backwards from newest, for speedy viewing. Different strokes for different folks. :D Bazza

Always have and always will have oldest first. On every forum I use.

    Just a personal preference I'm afraid ;)

Actually, what I do is lurk for a while with oldest first and then log-in with newest first.;)

They must have changed it. By the time I joined it was defaulted to exactly as lbmest just said. If you lurk without signing in, it's oldest first. Once you sign in, it's newest.

Not being on as much anymore, it stills works or not, but there is a program here at MG that remembers where I left off at. then starts me at that spot the next time I open the thread....wobbles

Personally, I prefer the oldest first way jsut because if I decide to check out a thread, I am reading the posts in the order they were written. Being (unfortunately) a somewhat linear thinker when it comes to stuff like that, I have a harder time working with the posts in reverse order.... especially if someone is referring to something said previously without quoting....

    Just my $.02 :)

Looks like I'm batting 0-6. :cry I usually can remember enough about any thread I am interested in to only have to go back around 24 hours. If I find a new thread that I am interested in then I go back to post #1 of course.
