    Hi all..
having some problems (small understatement) with my DVD drive.

It's the standard DVD drive that came with my computer, I downloaded Everest and got the following info:

    Device Properties
    Driver Description IDE-DVD DVDRW8801
    Driver Date 01/07/2001
    Driver Version 5.1.2535.0
    Driver Provider Microsoft
    INF File cdrom.inf
    Hardware ID IDE\CdRomIDE-DVD_DVDRW8801_______________________3X17____
    Location Information 1

Device manager says it's working fine, but when I put a CD or DVD in the drive it doesn't detect it; this is getting a tad annoying now, tried removing the upper/lower limits in the registry with no effect. Anyone got any ideas? Getting to the end of my tether and tempted to write it off as a problem with the laser, but thought here might be worth a go...Cheers in advance!

    Hi

Which Windows version? ( likely Xp going by the CDROM driver version )
*may help further down line with replies and fixes*

Outside chance fix is to in Device Manager delete the CDROM driver for this drive and then reboot and the OS will reinstall the driver again as they are defaultly built into the OS.

Sorry, in my frustration forgot basic info like that!

Running XP, I've also tried updating/rolling back drivers to no avail (XP says the ones I have are fine); I'll try uninstalling and re-installing, if that doesn't work then I'll be looking for a new drive I guess...cheers for the help!

Hey no probs, when posting quickly with frustrating issue that happens, yes do let us know how you get on and also a few other things.

Sounds daft but do either or both, pull the IDE ribbon cable out of both mobo and drive and replug in, also replace with known good one.... connections and faulting cables cause this at times.
