    Hi

As this application doesnt like some give you the option to not install the right click context menu handlers, you may find a link to the ones Eraser gives in the registry, now the registry is not a plac eto go deleting things out of hand without knowing exactly that is safe to delete, but please tell us what is in this location

Open the registry by clicking start run ( or if Vista just Start and type into the start search box regedit and hit enter ) and type regedit then find this key location HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers and tell us whats listed, from their we can see if their are links to Eraser and if its safe to delete.

    Hi

Busy weekend kept me off PC, thought that initial registry location would herald the exact component to remove to remove all the rigth click context menu handlers, sadly it didnt,

I then searched for others asking same and found no answers just questions and some input from one of the developers that they are to add the option to remove those Recycle Bin context menu handlers in the next major build ( version 6 ),but no firm answers or clues as to what to delete or change.

So I decided to backup registry and set about seeing if I could locate the correct registry keys to delete to remove these rigth click menus and leave the program intact and working, which I think I managed to do, the below is my actual PC and install of Eraser and some steps to how I removed the right click menus from the Recycle Bin, not as east as first thought as many of the keys were in CLSID.

First backup your registry as the below is not to be attempted lightly and is more geared to experienced to advanced users who know pitfalls of editing the registry, so choice is yours alone to make to attempt this or wait for the next version of eraser.

To remove those menu options then locate this key area

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell and you will see 7 files names Erasext ~ Erasext7 ( these when you look in the right window are named as the right clicks on the bin )

so in turn delete all of them and you if right click the recycle bin will as in this pic notice them disapear.

Once finished with those you will be left with one entry called Erasext, to remove this follow the below.

In the registry still navigate to this location and delete the folder names Erasext to remove the main remaining link to the context menu for Eraser.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\Erasext

then this is what your left with..........

Installed and followed these instructions 3 times to make sure they worked and did not affect any other part of my Vista OS.

NOTE: Editing the registry is not to be taken lightly and you do so at your own risk, but advice is to backup your registry and /or your PC first before attempting this, to backup your Registry you can use ERUNT http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1267.html to achive this.

    Hi Kasen

Yes delete the Erasext folder as that cause there to still be one entry left on the Recycle right click menu.

My pleasure as this seems to be something many seen to wish to remove.

    Hi,

    Thanks Halo for that tip!

I have been suffering through that list of eraser options on my recycle bin, when All I really want is : Erase 1 pass, or Erase 1pass first-last-2k.

This regedit <HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell > finally did the deed of getting that trimmed down.

    Good find there!

    Thanks. :)

of course, you could have gotten rid of all the shell context integration just by doing the Add/Remove Programs on it and tell it not to install it.
