should you decide to do this, i'd make a registry backup just in case. start --> run (in the run box) type " regedit " (without the " "). file export, and save it somewhere you can find it (ie - your desktop). if everything is fine, after reboot, etc, you can delete the registry backup. g/l, sos

i tried firefox but when i connect it keeps giving me this message how can i keep it from doing this :confused

    Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.microsoft.com.

    * Check the address for typing errors such as
    ww.example.com instead of
    www.example.com

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

If you are still having a problem with the Content Advisor password, use this:

I have used it (it's been a while) so I know it works. You said you did finally install a modem. Did you install the driver for it? Modems come with CDs with the drivers and software needed to get it to work correctly. If the driver is not installed, you will not be able to use it. Also, once the modem is installed correctly, you cannot just click on a browser (like Internet Explorer, NetScape, or FireFox) and expect it to connect. You must configure the browser first. How will the browser know how to connect? How will it know if it's supposed to connect through the modem or network card? If through the modem, how will it know what number to dial to log in to the internet? How? You have to 'tell' it how. Configuring dial-up can be a pain in the butt if you're not using a service like AOL (which sucks) or NetZero or Juno or PeoplePC. So, if the driver is installed, test the modem to make sure it is installed correctly and will dial. Here's how:
    1. Click Start. Click Run. Type dialer.exe[/i] and press Enter.
    2. The Dialer window will open. Click Edit and select Options. If the modem is installed correctly, you will be able to use it for dialing. Select it from the drop-down menu for Internet Calls.
    3. Click the Dial button (it's under File and Edit at the top) and enter a phone number that you can hear when it rings. A cell phone, a 2nd line in the house, whatever. Do NOT enter the number of the phone line you are dialing from.
    4. If the phone rings, then you know the modem is working correctly. If it doesn't ring, or you get any errors, post the errors and we'll go from there. If you get no errors and the phone rings, let us know, and we'll go to how to configure Internet Explorer for dial-up. You will need a valid dial-up access phone number from your internet service provider. You will also need your account name and password from your internet service provider. If you're using one of the providers I mentioned earlier (AOL, NetZero, etc) then use their CD to set up your internet.
    Good luck! Keep us posted.

Oh yeah- the above directions are for the Windows XP dialer. If you have a different version of Windows, post it and I'll post the directions for that version of Windows. I can't believe this thread is still going! It was started in Feb '08, and here it is mid-May and the problem (if you can even call it a problem; it's more of a project since we are trying to connect some to dial-up internet versus trying to repair a computer error or issue) is still not solved. This could have been solved a LONG time ago if the PC had been opened up back in Feb and we could have found out that there was no modem 3 months ago....
