Hello, I have bought Norton Anti Virus 2008 yesterday since my 2007 Norton was now out of date. I purchased the CD from a local computer store, not online renewal.

My mom went onto my computer to install it while I was not there and discovered the 2007 needed to be uninstalled before conitinueing the installing process. So She uninstalled it and it asked if that the files that were quarenteened should be deleted, she clicked yes to delete them.

Now, my whole computer is messed up. The XP theme is now an old them looking something like Windows 95 and I cannot connect to the internet or anything. Norton itself will not open either.

I called Norton but they said I had to have an internet connection for them to assist me, which I do not. It does not detect my router that I have on and working and does not detect Internet Explorer when I try to open it. Nothing will minimize or maximize.

So does anyone here know what I need to do aside from taking it to a computer shop because most of them will be closed all Weekend for Memorial Day. I really need to get back into my laptop to do some things I cannot do on the computer I am currently on.

    Thanks, Jeff.

Will this removal tool make my computer act normal again?

I do not want to take the risk or voiding the product and It not helping me at all.

I would do exactly as Kestrel suggested. You are not "voiding the product" only removing all traces of Norton for now.

I would try my internet connection before reinstalling Norton2008.

Is this removal tool the same thing as just uninstalling it? Because I do not have internet on my laptop because of this and I cannot download this removal tool.

If I uninstall Norton, will it have the same effect? I can just search for it in the find menu after I delete and delete any traces.

You can use the computer you are on now to download the Removal Tool, put it on a disk, then install it on your laptop and run it.

Just uninstalling Norton usually doesn't work, especially when you are installing a newer version..........there are alot of conflicts. That's why it is a good idea to use the Removal Tool, it will remove all the Norton products.

Then, you should be able to get your laptop back on the internet. The Removal Tool might take care of the other issues you are having. Just install and run it, you will be OK.
