You need to download the current version of MGtools and use it to create a new log and attach it if possible. If you cannot do that, I will try to work from what you gave us but there is info missing from your ZIP file that we will need.

Your keyboard issues may not be due to malware, but let's see what happens. I don't like the looks of the gdrv.sys file in your Windows folder but that file name is a valid file. It is just not normally found here. In the below procedure, I'm try to have ComboFix give me more information about the file. The valid file would be related to Microsoft Register Server.

You need to cleanup all the clutter on your Desktop. A cluttered Desktop can slow your everyday operations down and it provides and easy hiding place for malware. You should leave only links on your Desktop and only have tools like ComboFix and Avenger on it while working fixes in a forum like this. Afterwards they should be removed too.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

ok, first of all... i tried booting into safemode and seeing if the keyboard issue was present - it was, so i went ahead and bought a new keyboard... and this, as you can see, solved the spacebar problem -- the coincidental timing still leaves me very puzzled though

i tried cleaning up my desktop somewhat, but need to do more, ie burning a lot of it to backup dvds

i downloaded and ran the messenger remover tool, and now i don't appear to have msn messenger -- this confuses me greatly -- does messenger look and act exactly as msn messenger would? it seems bizarre that all this time i've been using something i thought was msn messenger for all my instant-messaging needs, but was in fact using some spyware-riddled program masquerading as such

i followed your instructions regarding the cfscript.text and dragged/dropped it on the cf.exe icon on my desktop (it was cf.exe and not combofix.exe, as the cleaning procedure on this site instructed me to rename it after downloading combofix) -- not sure if that makes a difference - it ran in its normal manner, ie rebooting the machine and eventually producing a log which i will attach to this post -- one question though... once the computer reboots after running cf, it states not to run any other applications, but i worry in that w/o action of my own, my normal startup procedure *does* begin running applications such as antivirus, software firewall, cellphone connectivity, etc -- does this affect the intended actions of cf or am i just being overly n00bish and paranoid?

i created and ran the fixme.reg file and yes, i did receive the 'success' message almost instantly

i ran the mgtools\getlogs.bat as instructed and it seemed to operate appropriately -- i did receive one error message just before it closed:

Process DLL.EXE - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135) Click on any key to terminate.

i hope that's normal or at least doesn't impinge on what we're trying to solve

again, thank you very much for your help here - i feel beholden to you fine folk and wonder what i can do to repay you or at least do my part to get you the credit you all so richly deserve - any insight on that?

i will now attach the requested logs

That's what I was expecting but I wanted to wait until all malware was removed before suggesting another keyboard. You may want to try the old keyboard on another PC just to see what happens.

You can just quickly move them to a temporary backup folder somewhere (not on the Desktop).

MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are not the same programs. Microsoft eventually got wise to the problems caused by Windows Messenger and even removed it with a particular hotfix somewhere after SP2 came out. If you use MSN Messenger and do not have it installed, you can just download and install Windows Live Messenger or you could use a program (like I do) which allows you to access multiple IM type accounts from one program. I use Trillian which gives you access to AOL, ICQ, MSN, IRC, and Yahoo IM accounts.

In most case it is not a problem as long as you do not startup any programs yourself.

This was explain in theUsing MGtoolslink given in the READ & RUN ME. See Error Message Type 4.

Spread the good word and get your downloads from Major Geeks! ;)

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
