Downloading AVG 8 with dial up

Hi Guys,

Just having problems downloading the new free AVG 8 on my old desktop (xp pro).

AVG have said I have to update before the end of the month but this old dial-up conection is so slow - 2.40 kb/sec! for a 45 MB download - and the line keeps on dropping out half way thru.

Is there a sneaky way to get around the problem or are there any other free anti-virus programs with smaller sizes?

I already have Spybot & a-squared.

Forgot to mention I was informed AVG 7.5 has to be upgraded. Is this right? Or will it still work? Just wondering if it's a ploy by AVG to force you into buying the new edition, as the free AVG 8 is hard to track down on their site.

Avg v7.5 is to be supported till December this year as per their forums. On the other hand people using v7.5 seem to be getting pop ups asking them to upgrade to v8 by end may??

I would wait, b'fore upgrading. Considering your Internet connection. If support for v7.5 continues stick with it.

Regarding a free AV ....Avast has a download of about 20 MB.

Do you know someone with a high speed Internet connection? Perhaps you could ask them to download it, then you give them a blank CD to burn it to.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll play around with a few things after work today and see what I can do. I was getting those pop-ups from AVG endlessly.

The only reason I'm sticking to the old dial up for that pc in Australia is the free website hosting I've had over the past few years. It's so easy to manage when I'm on assignments on your side of the world where I can manage it via a laptop - very cheap and very handy @ only $8 a month.
