Router claims to be unsecured, should be secured

Every now and again, when my wireless connection drops with my Dlink WBR-2310 router, the pop-up box (upon re-connecting) says:

    SSID(unsecured)

Other times, when it re-connects, it simply says:

    SSID

Any time I've gone to view the available wireless connections, even immediately after seeing it re-connect as SSID(unsecured), my router is listed as "Security enabled wireless network (WPA)"

Why is this happening, and what can I do to fix it? Is the router actually not secure at that time, or is it somehow being tricked into thinking it is not secure? This problem has only started in the last 3 or 4 days, and I've been using this router without this happening for at least 6 months before it started.

Are you using Windows or third party connection software?

Are you using the default SSID for the Dlink?
Is there another nearby Dlink which is unsecured?

Have you changed the admin and password access to the router?

    Windows

As far as I know, yes, all I have done is renamed it.

    *edit to add*

The status page for the router says:

    Channel:11
    Encryption:TKIP

Should I change the channel? Can I?

Ahh. There may be. There is a network within my computer's range called "dlink", that is secured at the moment, but some part of my memory seems to recall it being unsecured at other times. At the moment, when I connect to the internet, everything looks to be OK, I'm not getting that (unsecured) after my SSID name.

I will pay attention to that, and see if that network is unsecure when mine claims it is, but shouldn't be.

At the moment though, the only unsecured network that my computer picks up is titled "belkin54g".

How do I determine the brand of router being used at a different SSID?

Yes, but only after this had already started happening. I did a firmware update, thinking this might help (???), so at that time I changed the admin and password. This has still happened even after changing both the admin and password.

To add, I have since seen:

    (unsecured)

follow my SSID name when the SSID named "dlink" neaarby has been available. It appears to have WPA protection according to Windows' "Wireless network connection" box.

Hi - I have exactly the same problem, except with a Billion 7401 modem/router. Just wondering if you've managed to solve it yet.

Had no problems with a Linksys WRT54G router just last week, but since changing to the new Billion modem/router, Windows Wireless Connection says "SSID (Unsecured)" despite View available networks saying "WPA secured"

Which message do I believe? Is my connection secure? Is this just a Windows glitch?

I know this is an old post, but I feel the need to post to try to refresh it. I have the EXACT same problem as this fellow poster, and I have hoped to find some sort of answer. However, and apparently, this is a tricky problem. If anyone has any other information on what could be causing this (unsecured) mode to happen, please feel free to update this post.
