Users only want their computer fixed so that they can carry on doing what made it go wrong in the first place.

Many users believe that if the first attempt didn't work, another attempt in the exact same manner will succeed if retried many times, because computers understand the user's sense of urgency...

Absolutely! And if that fails, I blame my cat.

She once managed to crash my old mac performa (about a hundred years ago) by walking across the keyboard while a few proggies were open... Something "happened" to the poor machine, something started to conflict, and the thing had to be reinstalled... roflmao

So if it isn't the user, or the puter, it is usually a pet or a child!

Once, a friend was over with a few small children (myself I avoid them if I can...) and to keep the smallest one occupied I set it up on the computer with a simple game so that I could talk to my friend in peace. Next time I looked, the child, age 4 I think, was happily clicking away in the windows folder... :eek

And only last night... My cat (again, that blasted fur ball ) tipped over a vase that poured it's water all over my keyboard and my server that stood idle on the floor next to my desk...

And there was also the time when my monitor exploded, but you've all heard that story before! LOL

But myself, I've NEVER been the cause of anything going wrong with a computer... :cool

 

Myself, I adhere to the "GI-GO" principle.
And my puter is SUCH a nice trash compactor.

 

...I have screwed up many a P.C. in my time, <the buck stops here, eh?). But then again, they were my own stuff. One of the worst things I did years ago, is I had this rally old, crappy keyboard that I needed a sledge hammer press the keys, then a screwdriver to lever them up again, (okay, so I'm exaggerating, but not by too much). Anyway I got so jacked off with it one night, I threw it into my aquarium. ~ Weird thing is, after it was dried out, and I had regained a little sanity, it worked fine. Must have needed a good clean-out, or something rolleyes. True story.

What i hate is when you fix something and the User causes the same problem again they think you should come over and fix it again but for free. Now thats what i hate.

 

This is me as well. If I can't blame the computer (stupid computer, don't you know what I mean rather than the succession of keys I mistakenly hit to get there?), the cat is ALWAYS to blame. Or my mother...

Fortunately for me, about 98% of the time I can fix it myself. And as of yet (knock on all available wood) I have not had to resort to reinstalling the OS to make it right.
