Lost/forgott UAC Administrator password; any sugestions, help, solution?? Thanks

 

I can get into Vista with my Standards Account, but when I want to download certain programs the UAC Administrators box pops up asking for password in order to continue.
I can't even download password reseter or turn ON and OFF the UAC. Guess I will have to save my files on an external hard drive (may not let me ??) and re-install Vista.

 

UAC should always be shut OFF during Vista installation/setup.

If for some reason that download does not work for you,
you can do the registry edit manually. Here's the line to edit:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLUA"=dword:00000000

UAC can be RE-Enabled by editing that line again and changing the last digit to a 1 instead of a zero.

Apologies......

I had forgotten that .reg files don't download properly, so I
zipped the file with 7Zip and made it self extracting.

the new file is:
http://cxt_msp_shafl.members.atlantic.net/DisableUAC.exe

Download the file, click it to start the self extraction process and click the .reg file to run it. UAC will be shut off.

I just tested the file and it does download and self-extract properly.
Enjoy. Feel free to share it with other users of Windows Vista.
The .exe file can easily be sent by email, or transported on a floppy disk, CD or flash drive.
