    Hi there,
I have just reformatted my computer and installed Vista Ultimate x64. I was updating the drivers when I happened to, I guess flash the bios in Windows. I didn't know that I did that and now I can't boot past the screen where it say BIOS checksum error.

It asks for a system disk. I have tried making a system disk via Nero 8 with their Boot CD application. I don't know if I'm not doing it right. Whenever I make the Boot CD it seems that the other files that I put on the CD are not burned onto the CD itself. The 2 files I'm trying to attach to Boot CD are the ones mentioned by "n3et" in the thread:

Award Flash exe file & the 513.rom file.

Can someone tell me exactly how to create a system disk that will have these 2 files on the Boot CD as well? Thanks in advance.

Next time I won't flash the Bios unless I know what I'm doing. I just downloaded the drivers all together and just clicked them mindlessly while they installed.

Flashing bios w/o needing the new features is asking for trouble. There's a procedure for flashing bios. You have to read the mobo manual for the proper procedure.

It looks like you flashed ok, but the bios settings may be wrong. Go to bios, load defaults, save & exit, go to bios & set it up again. You need to set it up to the way it was. i.e. boot order. Harddisk should be last. If that doesn't work, you can clear cmos. Your manual explains this.

Well, the problem is I never got to flash the BIOS, I don't have the manual for this board, as it was an open box HP computer that I had bought. I can't even get to the BIOS or CMOS to default to factory defaults. All I need to do is get passed this screen:

    "Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copying (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.

    BIOS ROM checksum error
    Detecting IDE ATAPI Device...
Found CD ROM, try to boot from it... fail
    Detecting floppy drive A media
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
    "

I have tried to making several different boot CDS just so I can load the flash program and the ROM that is needed to flash the BIOS, but I can't seem to find a boot CD that allows me to put the flash program on the Boot CD along with the ROM file. That's what I need help with.

I don't have a floppy driver, my computer never came with one.

    I tried using:
    DrDOS
    Clean Boot CD package v2.0
and 1 more that I can't think of right now.

I don't know what to do and it's driving me crazy! :cry

Google your mobo make & model. Then go to the manufacturer's site for pdf manuals.

You can try shorting the clear any cmos jumper. If none exists, unplug power cord & pull battery out for an hour.

If clearing cmos can't fix it, you have a big problem. You might have to have a technician take a look at it. Or RMA if warranty hasn't expired.

    Hi everybody
I had exactly the same problem as p-town83. After trying to flash bios within windows vista with the published HP-Biosupdate sp37190.exe for this mainboard, bios did not update correctly and i had the same message:

    Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copying (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.

    BIOS ROM checksum error
    Detecting IDE ATAPI Device...
Found CD ROM, try to boot from it... fail
    Detecting floppy drive A media
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

After reading the older, but closed thread:

I tried to extract the bios file from sp37190.exe HP-Bios which i downloaded from HP Support Europe but all I got out of this was not the mentioned Biosfile "513.ROM". The file i was able to extract was: na35.13 dated May 2 2008. -Looked strange, but I tried to rename my file na35.13 to 513.ROM but no success...

AWDFLASH.exe was saying: The program file's part number does not match with your system !

I thought HP changed the file contents in the meantime.

I was so angry :confused, my last hope was, that HP USA must have a different version which other forum users used who were able to correct the issue successfully .

    *********>>>>>>

Halleluja ! So it is ! HP USA provides the Bios Update for these systems and boards with the same filename sp37190.exe but it contains a different version from the European one!!!!!! In the US-file there is the correct version "513.ROM" which i used and look ! It worked !!!! My system is running again without changing motherboard or sending the whole system to them and paying them 200 US$!!!!
:major I am so angry! :( -Wasted so much time with this! They have since 11-2007 a wrong version on the European Support Page which caused so much trouble for so many users! They made good business in selling lots of mainboards to lost users! I will tell them !!!!! :cry

I am happy now, not because of HP, but thanks to you guys! Thanks !:wave
