Corel X4 Problems

A while ago, I downloaded the trial version of Corel X4 from Corel. I was very pleased with the package so I eventually persuaded my boss to buy it.

When the trial version ran out, certain functions got greyed out, (print, edit, save, etc... all the main stuff..)

I contacted Corel, and they suggested uninstalling then reinstalling the software after a reboot. I have done this several times, and even cleaned the registry with CCleaner, but everytime I reinstall the software, it thinks it's still the expired trial version...

The only other suggestion the Corel tech guys said was to reinstall the operating system to wipe all traces of corel trial version.

I don't want to have to do this, so does anyone know a way of removing every trace of corel x4 from the pc so I can do a "Clean" install? I am running Windows Vista 64 bit business...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would not buy anything from a company that suggests this.

They know how, but wouldn't tell you cuz I suspect it could circumvent the trial limitation. That or they were fed up with your inquires. You can try hunting down every Corel key in regedit. It takes a bit of time. Use the Find function. Then log into another admin account & delete your temp files in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\***account name***\Local Settings\Temp

Delete the Corel folder under Program Files.

Is that as simple as searching for "Corel" in registry? do I delete every single reference to it?

You have to look at each entry and make sure it relates to Corel X4.
When you use the find function, anything with the letters corel will be flagged and it might not be the product you currently want to clean out.

Also before you start cleaning, play it safe and make a backup of the registry. I don't run XP so I can't tell you exactly what to click (I run 2K and the menu items are different).

Yup. Usually, the containing key with "corel" or something like that would be the one to delete.

start, run, regedit, file, export, type a file name to back up the whole registry. Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted. Leave this backup there for a week before deleting it.

sorry to but in but this doesn't actually work,

if for any reason the registry needs to be restored and you merge the created .reg file, you will get an error and it fails,

i run w2k as well and found this out the hard way,

just tried it on xp pro and the same error appears,

there is a nice little program here at majorgeeks that does the job perfect, its called 'erunt' and free

    saved me hours of headaches

Thank you for bringing that up hawklord. Many people do not realize that. There is a FAQ as well, if you do not wish to use extra software, but as long as the desired result is achieved, its all good.
