My computer is an HP Pavilion w/an intel pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz w/1.00 GB of ram. My operating sys is microsoft windows XP home edition Verison2002 service pack 2. I'm getting error messages when trying to start games of either wrong font or not enough mem. The computer is running slow, and freezes up, or print starts dissapering. like now if I go to control panel most of the headings dont have pictures it looks like a page. under my defrag file it says I have 90% free space so why not enough memory to run things.

it could be alot of things. do you currently have an antivirus program (if so, what), and is the subscription current? what about antispyware programs (is so, what)? when is the last time you ran scans? how much stuff do you have starting up on bootup? when is the last time you defragged your comp?

you might want to start there. we can give more suggestions later on. i personally like winpatrol to monitor my startup items, as well as alerting me to changes to my startup. g/l, sos

sosaman I went to the computer maintance link and tried to download the CCleaner but got the message that the signature could not be verified and it stopped the down load. My antivirus subscription is good until 9/19/08 and my webroot spy sweeper is good until 11/10/08.

how many antispyware programs do you have running that are realtime? can you post a screenshot of your startup. start --> run --> msconfig --> startup tab

or if you have ccleaner, you can show us your startup from there. ccleaner --> tools --> startup

hmm, i don't know what would cause that (maybe others will come along, that know more about that error). do you have another browser (ie - netscape, firefox, etc)? it probably wouldn't hurt to empty your cache (in internet explorer --> tools --> internet options --> delete - or delete files), and/or delete temp files. "right click" my computer --> select properties --> "click" disk cleanup, and go from there.

you could also try rebooting, and see if you can d/l the file again? - sos

sosaman the ccleaner finialy downloaded and it cleaned out the temp files, I have also run the first part of driver detective with out buying it and it tells me that I have a bunch of drivers out of date but when I ask a program to check for updates they either give me an update or it says I am running the most current verision is this the the drivers that i'm being told are out of date.

i wouldn't worry about that right now. it gets confusing when we are trying to do stuff (i don't totally know if what i'll say will fix your problem, but it will help). when others start doing other things on the side (ie - driver detective), it doesn't help the cause (so to speak). - sos

edit - you should be able to look for drivers on your own (without purchasing anything). i'm sure others (more knowledgeable) will come along and "voice their opinion" on this subject. i think everest might help here (link below), but don't do this now.

also, you never answered my questions. how many real time antispyware programs do you have running in real time? can you post a screenshot (i want to see your startup entries)? - sos
