    Are you a Blood donor?
How long have you been donating blood?
Are you scared of donating blood?
Are you thinking of donating blood?

Apparently Aussies have a pathetic record in that only 3% of us donate blood, but 33% of the propulation will need a blood transfer at some time.
Don't know how this record compares to other countries, though.

I used to donate blood, but after getting Malaria 3 times, I ceased donating.

Hope to hear from y'all. :-D

Anyone, and every donation counts. :major We never know when we might need donated blood. Car accident victims, those attacked by knives, etc., may need lots. Bazza

    Hello Bazza, :wave

The silence of results for this thread says volumes about how Aussie's react to donating blood. :(

Yes I donated blood several times. Scared of needles - nope - during pregnancy blood tests are required many times - so soon got over that one.

Stopped donating a couple of years ago. Could I go back now - yep. Will I - probably not. Would prefer to go with someone - hunter gatherer male, won't go, no matter how much encouragement I give him. Tried to get a local mum, to go with me - she flip flopped then canceled at last minute.

Distance is an issue a round trip of over 60kms just to donate. Going at night not a good option - local wildlife issues. Last time a roo tried to make himself my hood ornament, he didn't live, nor did my front quarter panels, the Cleveland motor did.

Don't know about Cairns but here in Victoria, it was a requirement to make a booking, the last time I made an appointment I had to wait for six weeks, (earliest available). Go figure that - harder to donate blood than get an appointment to see a local GP.

Time to reassess - Thanks for giving me something to think about.

    Paramonks.

That sounds like an ordeal. Here in my hometown they will hold mobile drives and usually come to my workplace at least every other month. I can also go in anytime as a walk-in at the donor center. I know my commute is significantly less, only ten miles on paved roads. I have been donating blood since I turned eighteen and I will continue to give blood until I am old and gray. In fact this post has inspired me to return, last time was about six months ago and I usually shoot for three to four times per year. If you are afraid of needles take an anti-anxiety med your blood is more precious to the three or four individuals it can help save.

There is always a blood drive going on here too, recently someone stole their mobile unit how awful is that?

Perhaps in Melbourne they might have mobile units, but I'm about 100miles northish of Melbourne and they seem fairly set in their ways here, no indication that there will even be mobile units in the future.

A small rural town just over 12 miles away tried to get the Blood bank to come out to their hospital to set up a a regular donation day - no dice there either, then they tried to organise a mini bus to take groups of people into town to where the blood bank is - that fell through also.

They do have a walk in service at the Blood Bank - to the best of my knowledge those sessions are only ever held at night.

No joy anywhere - no in rural Victoria - you have to be fair dinkum committed to give blood because there is no other options, and like all things in life stuff happens to mess up even the best made plans.

oh well - back to thinking - Paramonks :)

Here in Cairns they have a mobile van, but I haven't heard much about their timetable lately. Maybe it has been cancelled. I think it is advisable to book into our Main donation centre.

Glad this thread has made people think about donating again. I should find out if they accept an oldie who has had malaria (ages ago--no repeat).
