I had a friend who had a regular run-of-the-mill blank CD-R and he was somehow able to put 153 mp3 tracks on it. How did he do this? When I asked him, he told me that instead of burning the CD as an MP3/Audio CD, he burned it as just a data file cd and when he popped it into the car's CD player, it just began reading and playing the files. I attempted to do this, however, I'm not having any luck. I have a few MP3s that are well over the alotted time limit given to me on a regular blank CD-R (i.e. 121 minutes), however, it's only about 111MB, so it's clearly within the 700MB capacity...

    Any help here?

    Thanks,

    Adam

you should be able to just right click your music, and send it to your cd drive. i open my computer, open another window with my music, and just drag the music to my cd drive. then windows will say there is items waiting to be written (something like that - screenshot below), then follow the prompts, and it's done.

edit - i usually use cd rw's, that way i can edit/erase them. once, i get my play list down, then i burn a copy on cdr. g/l, sos

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are saying. I know how to burn the CD. I am asking how can I get it so I can have over a hundred MP3s on 1 CD.... That I do not know how to do but I know it can be done bc I've listened to a CD with many many more songs than the usual 18-20 on a normal burned CD.

you want to do it as a data cd. i've posted some screenshots below. if you get to a 3rd screen (something about highmat), i'd ignore that. actually, today is the 1st time i've seen it (i normally use my laptop to make my cd's ). - g/l, sos

ps, i make them all the time, as my car stereo will play mp3's, and wma's.

I tried burning the files as a data CD, however, it still won't play in the car. The CD player is about 6 yrs old give or take and I know it plays MP3s because I've played hundreds of burned MP3 CDs in it. Is it possible that it wouldn't play wma files? Sorta sounds unlikely...

yes, that could be possible. the faceplate (front of my car stereo), says mp3, and wma. if you don't have your manual, do a search on yahoo for your model. also, have you tried your disk, on another player, or comp? - sos

It depends on the model of CD player you have in your car.
It used to be, several years ago, that most CD players could not handle data CDs. In recent years that has changed and now nearly all of them do.
DVD players (stand alone ones that connect to your TV) also have for several years been able to play MP3 and WMA files burned to a data CD. Earlier models would give you an "incorrect" or "bad" disk error. If you have a fairly new DVD player you can test your data CD in it to be certain that there is nothing wrong with the disk itself.

Well I popped the CD into my DVD player and it recognizes the MP3 file and plays fine. So why is the CD player not recognizing the MP3 file? Simply becuase it's burned as a "data" CD and not an "audio" cd AND that the CD player I have is a few years old?

    Most likely Yes and Yes

so, your car stereo won't recognize the disk at all? note: this is why i mentioned cd-rw's, and also looking up the manual for your model of cd player. have you tried burning a disk with mp3's only (without wma's). are any of your songs copy write protected? - sos

edit - have you tried to play your disk, on the one your friend popped his into (or was that your cd player)?

Simply, yes. Your six year old car CD player does not have the ability to play MP3 files, only audio CDs. The MP3 format is a compressed audio format far different than the .CDA files found on an audio CD.

JustPlayin --- If I burn a regular Audio CD with MP3 files, generally I can fit about 18-20 depending on the song length, then YES, the CD player plays the CD fine. No problems.

It is only when I attempt to burn the MP3 files as a DATA CD, so that I am only limited by number of MBs (700MB max) that the CD player doesn't seem to recognize the MP3 file. When only limited by MBs, I can fit way more MP3 files on the CD compared to being limited by "playing time" which I think is 80 minutes.

Sosaman --- He played the CD with 150+ MP3s on it in his car which is a 2007 and a much newer CD player. Additionally, I receive no disk error at all. The CD appears to be playing, except no sound is coming out of the speakers, even turned all the way up. I see the track time counting, but nothing more.

Therefore your car CD player can not read data CDs properly.
Furthermore, if your burn a data CD it should play fine in your friend's car.

Although you are burning MP3 files to your audio CD they are being recorded as CDA files.

The only solution to your problem is to replace the CD player in your car or be satisfied with the smaller capacity offered by audio CDs.

you never really answered my question. you say it will play mp3's, but have you tried a disk without wma's (mp3's only)? - sos

Therefore, technically your CD player is not playing MP3 files.
    It is playing CDA files.
