I read over threads and not sure where to put this so I'm making a new one. Hope that is ok.

I've been here often just researching and trying to solve computer problems and you guys have been really helpful. However there is one item that I still have a problem with.

I have ran spybot and ad-aware 2008 and AVG and they found numerous virus and adwares and I ended up removing several hundred. My computer is running somewhat better but the net is super slow. So I came here and read that others had a problem with the same thing and one person here told them to run RemovalIT- I ran the free version and it found two 'malicious' virus/worms.

    this is what it was

    "0712i32.exe and 0715i32.exe"

It said it could not remove them. I had to do it manually. SO I regedit and found them and thought I removed them but they won't leave. I opened them in the run command and this is their support

SARC Intelligent Updater Symantec Corp Virus detector. It looks to be from an old anti-virus program that I deleted years ago.

Is there any way to remove this? Any help would be appreciated

I have a windows XP HP version 2002 Service Pack 2 (although this is not on my system- I can't download it or SP3 it stops in the middle of downloading)
HP CPU 1.70 GHz 1.69GHz 128MB of RAM (and that is 89% in use)

Thanks for any help with this problem

I did follow that, several months ago, and then about a month ago again, and then I just ran those steps yesterday, I don't have an logs so I don't know what you mean by that but net is still super slow- maybe I just need to get more memory.

Anyway, I'll figure something out to get rid of those two worms/virus. Thanks anyway.

You don't know what I mean by what? Doing the Read and Run First instructions? Attaching the logs that are produced by the procedure? If you ran those steps, each scan would produce a log.

Yeah I didn't see any logs. The procedures just ran and cleaned out files. If there were logs that dispalyed I didn't see them. I'm actually too fed up with fighting with this damn machine to do all that again for some log files. I'll figure something out.

    Thanks anyway.

    MGTools leave a log here:
    C:\MGLogs.zip

MalwareBytes leaves a log in the program...just open it and find the quarantine list.

The MGLogs.zip is the most important at this point....it's the only way I can help you.

Sorry, for some reason #3 on the instructions did not show up on my window. I went into yours posted in my thread and #3 option was there. So I have attached the logs. My net is somewhat faster. If there is something else I need to do, please let me know.

I put all the first 5 logs in a txt doc-copy and paste. If that isn't readable let me know. The second is the MGtools zip created.

    Again Thanks.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

I think I made a mistake. I selected all the lines, there were 52 and the log is attached. Can this be reversed. This is my error sorry. I misunderstood

The log you attached....was it from before you checked all items? Did you click on the fix button? This log shows that nothing was fixed...so I am confused.

I checked every box and then hit fix- it DID delete them all because I lost IE yahoo and that was one of the boxes. The log was what was before.

    Hi purplecrystal,

See if you can run HijackThis. To do this, go to Windows Explorer and open the MGTools folder in C:\

Look for the file called analyse.exe.
    Double-click on analyse.exe.

In the Window that opens, look for the button that says None of the above, just start the program and click on that.

In the lower right-hand corner of the window that opens up, click on Config.

On the next page at the top, click on Backups

On the backups page, you should see all the items you deleted. Please put a checkmark next to all the ones that TimW did NOT ask you to check and then click on Restore.

When you finish clicking on restore, just close the window.

Then go to the MGTools folder in C:\ again, only this time look for the file called GetLogs.bat.
Double-click on this file and allow it to run. When it's finished, it will give you a message like "Hit any key to close the window" or something similar. Do that.

Then come back here and use the Manage Attachments button to find the new set of MGlogs.zip which will be located as a file (not folder) direcly under C:\

Upload the file and tell us how things went??

ok I did all that and have attached the log. Now, should I finish TimW's instructions? I got to the Avenger part- downloading that and finishing. I didn't do that part yet. Should I?

Please thank TimW and thank you for all your help, it has helped me a great deal so far, so thanks!

It appears from the log that you did not do the Registry patch and the avenger fix...did you have problems with either of these?

Can you use windows explorer to find these:
    Code:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\"
    set100.tmp Apr 13 2008 512512 "SET100.tmp"
    set101.tmp Apr 13 2008 62464 "SET101.tmp"
    set102.tmp Apr 13 2008 64512 "SET102.tmp"
    set103.tmp Apr 13 2008 33280 "SET103.tmp"
    set104.tmp Apr 13 2008 599040 "SET104.tmp"
    set105.tmp Apr 13 2008 163840 "SET105.tmp"
    set106.tmp Apr 13 2008 27648 "SET106.tmp"
    set107.tmp Apr 13 2008 1267200 "SET107.tmp"
    set108.tmp Apr 13 2008 792064 "SET108.tmp"

That is just a very few of those files....you will see that it is extensive....just right click each one and delete them. Just the setxxx.tmp files!

I DID the registry fix and then I thought I better ask before finishing the list of things you wanted me to do. Should I download Avenger and finish that list? Or do I just need to do this thing about finding the temp files? I did the regeistry fix AFTER I sent you the mGtools zip file. I thought maybe I should finish your list of things to do after that major screw up was fixed. Then I thought, better ask

Yes...download avenger and do that part....then see if you can find and delete all those system32 / setxxx.tmp files....then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip.

Ok here is is, I deleted all the temp files you indicated, ran another mgtools get log and attached the avenger file I got after I ran.

My system seems to be ok, tho the net opens slow still but no where near as slow as it did. Used to take like 10 minutes to open, now it only takes about 2 or 3

    So thanks!!

Please let me know if I need to do anything else.

Once again, can't express enough my thanks!!

    Sweet.....Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1 If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)

    * Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    * "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
o Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
o This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    * Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
2 *If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
3 *If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    6. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
How to Protect yourself from malware!

I put that in the run box and it said Windows can not find the file make sure you typed it in correctly and I did recheck and did it again and it said the same thing. Then I looked on my desk top- no combo fix tho it WAS there, went into add/remove and it wasn't there either? So I don't know if something I did removed it maybe?

You want me to finish the rest of the steps?

  22. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

    Yes...finish the rest.....:)

You can look for and delete:
you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs

  23. purplecrystal

    purplecrystal Private E-2

Ok, I did all that. I looked for all the combo stuff and couldn't find anything. But I'll keep looking. I even did a regedit and looked for ComboFix under find and it couldn't find anything.

Otherwise I completed all the steps.

My system starts up faster, before it took about 10-15 minutes to open now it is about 2 minutes. However, my net is a little slower, about 2-3 minutes to open, but still faster than before where it took about 10 or so minutes just to open windows.

If there is anything else for me to do, please let me know.

Once again, I can't tell you how much help you guys were. I tell everyone about this site- it is fantastic! and thanks so much :)
