Ya, I was thinking of putting all sorts of chemical crap down the holes but thought of how that might affect my produce and then ultimately us. At any rate, I hate killing anything that I don't have to and this is the best way.:)

Yay! Good for you augie. If you look at my first post when I started this thread it was about my rabbit problems. I tried using one of those traps, but they never did work for me. Now I have a dog. He's much better. :-D

Yup, snow is basically an insulator that stays around the freezing point but when they/it chewed up the styrofoam protecting the pipe, the -30 temperature air got to it real fast, I think another hour more and the pipe would have been completely frozen and then it would crack.

...and here's the male, tough to see in the photo but it's much larger and meaner.LOL The female was bewildered as opposed to the male who was gnashing at everything. Going to keep the cage for a few more days, just in case. I just hope we don't catch a skunk!:-D

    Laura:
About the traps, check with a local beagle club. I know you're a way from Harrisburg, but there's a nice on there. I caught 21 rabbits this year, and relocated them all to ours. Also, the traps we use are easy to build.. let me try and find one..

Striking out so far... I'm sure you could get one from a Beagle Club though... all mine are, are a box with a ramp inside that has a wire on the far end holding open a door.. when the rabbit gets on the ramp, it lets the door fall and slap in on the butt enough that the rabbit hops inside a bit more, and the door shuts completely.. The door is a little longer than the opening, so it shuts, but can't be pushed through.. wire to close off the other end... rabbits are calm, they settle right down, and wait to be released..

I could probably send you a trap, or take pictures of one if you like to build things.. Let me know.

Thanks Paxton! :) That's so nice of you.

I have actually noticed a significant difference since getting Oscar. If they dare come in the yard, he has a blast going after them. They stay well away from my patio area now.

Now, if you have traps big enough for deer.... :-D

Yepper. I cut the bushes down to about 12 inches in the fall, and they are a good 3 1/2 foot tall now.

So the varmints did have offspring!! Seen two so far today and they're pretty large for offspring IMO but I don't know for sure, could be it's another pair taking over the territory. :crybaby

The better half keeps telling me the neighbors want to steal our hydrangeas this year. Seems like they are pretty & huge this year. Plus hosta city next to them and just a sky shot from this AM after the storms last night cleared out the humidity.

    Hello lbmest :wave

Love the hydrangeas! Did I see some blue and pink flowers? That plant was a favourite my Pa used to grow very well, unfortunately I can't grow them, the soil here just isn't suitable. I can understand the neighbours wanting to pinch 'em, would like to myself. Glad you explained about the sky pic. I was wondering if maybe you had a slight accident with the camera. :-D

    Hey paramonks,
You're right about the colors on the blossoms.
One of my sisters-in-law told us the brickwork right behind them cause that.
(At first I thought the degreaser I use on the car engines was to blame, like the old radioactive ants from the 50's movies.;))
The sky pic was just because it was so blue this morning.:cool

Ahh yes, the penny drops, that would help to explain. Degreaser, fabulous stuff! As to the radioactive ants, you got me there, will have to scuttle off to imdb for that movie - not familiar with it (just a wee bit before my time).

Have a great day - Paramonks

Oh, how pretty! Gardening is so neglected in the fall/winter... I never quite appreciated it before, but my mom (the gardener I've learned everything I know from) somehow created a yard that looks beautiful in every season. It looks like you've done the same!

I've been doing a lot of autumn photography -- I went up to visit some old college friends in NY this past weekend and the leaves were all changing there. I'll have to upload them and post! Thanks for the insp!
