    Hey fellas!

Something weird is happening, i've downloaded SP3 and installed it on my laptop and another desktop and worked and installed well. Now i tried installing the same SP3 in my Work desktop system that already has SP2 in (AMD Ahtlon 64) and when i double click on the .exde file it starts Extracting and it extract on one of my HD (the H one) and then an error message appear telling me that it does not find a file or something like that.

One thing i know is that once i click OK in the two Error messages, then it erase automaticly the Extracted folder in the H.

Here are some snapshots of the errors i got:

    http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u106/Sosomusik/Sp3error2.jpg

Also, after failing to install SP3 and after searching and reading work arounds gave from MS site... i am still 'till today not able to update to SP3.

If anyone could help me here in any way, i would appreciate

    Thank you in advance!

    :(

Is this the harddrive that has the OS on it?

    Hello Tim!

Thank you for responding! And no, the H Drive is not where the OS is installed. ( My OS is installed on my C drive) But forget about the H drive because that happened when i wanted to install the SP3 after i downloaded it in my C drive and double clicked on it to installing. The other time, i went straight to Windows update site with IE7 and i choose Express install and when it start downloading and then after installing, i got those Erorr message and SP3 failed to install

But the H drive was when i tried to isntall Sp3 manually myself without passing thru IE

    If any question, i'm here

Thank you very much for your time

    Hello Tim!

OK, as i mentioned before, i did try to ways of installing the SP3. My first way was to go to the link and downloaded the SP3 in my C drive. And then Double Clicked on it to launch the executable and start Extracting to the H. I let it go and then it continues like it was installing perfectly, Check the system and asking me to backup the registry etc.. and start to install, i saw the progress bar going up and then till a certain time Error pops up and these are the message i got. U can check it in theses snapshots:

    http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u106/Sosomusik/SP3error1.jpg

    http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u106/Sosomusik/Sp3error2.jpg

After that failure, i went on google and search for answers, and i stumbled on some link of MS showing ways around for people that the SP3 updated failed to install, asking to make the update directly thru Windows update site and choose "Express install" etc..

Followed thoses steps and i saw windows downloading in the Windows update site of course and after saying "installing ...." and then staring to install and then Message of Failed to install this udpate and same errors pops up

Hope that i was able to explained you the situation

    Thanx again for your time

In my C drive? Should be downloaded to the desktop .........extracting to the H? Should be extracted to the C drive.....

Do you have any anti-virus or anti-spyware running when you are doing this?

    Hey Tim!

Sorry i did not tell you all. Just for the record, at the beginning, i downloaded on my Desktop and then did not work. After, downloaded inside my C drive, did not work (all this its when i wanted to isntall SP3 manualy) and i had an antivirus and a Firewall (AVG and Comodo). After i went back and read and googled, i followed steps telling me how to Disable my Antivirus and Firewall. Then i Disable all and i thought it would work by going to install directly from Windows update etc.. and no did not work

And as for the WHY the system kept on Extracting on the H, I got No idea. It was extracting automatically.

No, this machine is NOT running windows Defender. The only software i have running to protect my machine are: Comodo Firewall and AVG antivirus version 8. Thats all!!

Going to read the link you sent me and follow the steps there.

    Thank you

Edit: By the way Tim. I'm following right now the steps of the link you sent to me and i rebooted my system, turned everything down (regarding Antivirus etc..) but the un-normal thing is that while i double click on the Windows XP Sp3.exe file that is in my Desktop, it starts extracting directly to the H drive and i don't know why is it going there... Do you have any clue how to fix that? Because that might be the main issue!

    Edit Part II:

Hello Tim! I just tried exactly what your link suggested and so on. And as i mentioned above, the weird thing is that its Extracting on the H drive. I tried and i got the same Error poping up (the ones in the screenshots i sent to you). I'll wait for your answers! Thank you for your time! appreciate!

What is your H drive? A partition or a second drive?

My H drive is a seperate drive. Not even a partionned drive. Its my Audio workstation drive, nothing to do with the C drive.

Have you tried disconnecting it while you do the service pack?

    Hey Tim!

Well to be honest, i haven't try that. Unfortunately i left the studio right now. So if you don't mind i will TRY that tomorrow to Disconnect the H drive, or even better, i will disconnect all my HDs and leave only the C and see what will happen.

Thank you again for all your great time. I will report back tomorrow!

    Cheers!

    Hello Tim!

Sorry for the delay, here i am and i just tried what you suggested. Even more, what i did, i UNPLUGGED all my HD and left only my C drive. Then reboot, once in my computer, in my desktop, i doubled click on SP3.exe and let it go and then once it Inspect my system and then was about to start installing, the installation window disappeared and i got the same errors that i posted with the links.

Honestly, now i don't know whats the deal. Let me know your thoughts!

    Thanx a lot!:cry

Keep all your drives disonnected. Grab SP3 and try extracting it again. With the H drive out of the piture, it can't extract to any other drive but the C drive that is available.
