windows xp stuck at loading personal settings

Hi my neice has winows xp pro and she click on something that said she had a virus and to clean it up to click on win virus or something like that I have seen this before on another computer and the person had problems after clicking on it. anyway i downloaded avast anti virus and spywareguard and ran them. before this she could not open any files and i could not get into the add and remove programs now when we turn on the computer it goes to loading your personal settings and stays there or the screen goes blue, I tried to open things up in safe mode and could not so I am stuck as to what to do next short of reformatting the hard drive which I need to find some instructions to do that, can someone please help me out.

 

I think you might want to check over in the "Malware Removal Forum" on this. Do the "Read & Run Me First" (#3 "Sticky") there. Follow it to the letter (it's going to take time) and you should be able to get this fixed. VERY good Malware tech people over there.

I went there and read through it but the only problem is I cannot get to her windows screen it stays at loading your personal settings and if I get into safe mode I cannot open anything up.

 

If she uses system restore you could try using a restore point much prior to her contracting this problem.

 

system restore is asking to restore to dates in the future like june 23rd

 

Will it not allow you (her) to "Create another Restore Point" - and then scroll-back through the calendar to a past date?

 

no it will only go to a future date.
