Another FF 3.0 Issue

My Add-Ons (of which I rarely keep more than a handful of - maybe 10-12 at the most - at any given time) from FF 2.0.0.14 are "locked" in - and not allowing me any sort of access to them in FF 3.0.

A number of them are telling me that they are"not compatible" with 3.0, which is fine - as I can live without those, and have repeatedly attempted to disable and uninstall - or just simply uninstall.

Of the others, they 'claim' to have been "updated" - but I cannot get any of them to do anything - (the "disabled" to disable, and the"uninstalled" to go-away, nor the ones that supposedly convey to the new browser, to operate).

I have 'restarted' the browser a number after these attempts, as well as having restarted the machine, and run CCleaner.

    Any clues?

    Thanks,

What OS? For Vista, the location of your profile is at:

    C:\Users\*USER_NAME*\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

    More info at:

    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles

Back up bookmark.html. Uninstall FF3. When asked to delete personal files, do it. Reinstall FF3. Copy your bookmark back to that folder. Drag & drop your add-on's files ending with XPI to Firefox > Add-ons window.

Type about:config in the address bar, find extensions.checkCompatibility and set to false. Restart Fx.

    Very interesting! very nice!

However, "extensions.checkCompatibility" is not on the list on my PC.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks ...

Thank you very much for this - however, I'm just wondering now if I perhaps am not "ready" for FF3(?). It does seem faster to me, I love the updated look, and I'm sure it's more secure, but if I supposedly "learn" this now, the next time I would probably need to do it again would be what, years from now, when FF4 comes-out? I will most assuredly have forgotten it by then. I think I'm getting too old for this ...

Assuredly no more daft than my answer - ummm yes ma'am, he said the address bar - right?

Ok, perhaps I am stooopid - but this (*below) makes no sense to me.

    Backing up your profile

Backing up your profile folder in Firefox is easy. Just follow these steps:

    1. From the menu at the top of the Firefox windowbar, select File and then select the Exit menu item.

If (when) I select File>Exit, I do get an option to "Save and Quit", but it seems as if it is only saving my tabs, and then closes the browser.

    How would I:
Or is that in fact saving/backing-up what I wish to do, when I do it??

Right click and add it as type boolean.

Continued thanks for the help, but no luck. "extensions.checkCompatibility" is now on the list, set as "boolean" (Type) and "false" (as Value).

Still cannot download from the web, nor do anything, with any of my FF Add-Ons

I'm guessing that I'll need to try the other, previously mentioned procedure, as my only option/hope?

    Thanks ...

The bookmark.html is the single most important to a Firefox user, IMO. The rest may not be compatible with new versions. Some of my settings were reverted back to defaults when I left my profile intact.

With new version comes a learning curve. I don't mind it. The bookmark layout is a bit different this time around. I had to manually re-organize it to my liking.

Google or find MozBackup here. It backs up & restores your profiles with everything in them. Back up your stuff regularly.

Well, I am not sure what happened, but finally, the add-on's are doing as I ask them to do (have either gone-away [uninstalled], or updated).

I'm certain that you all don't quite understand that I am waaaaay behind the curve on all of this stuff. I tend to be a slow learner to begin with, and then it seems, when I finally do "get it", they "change it"!!!

I will work at it, but I'm from the old school, where we had actual, literal file-cabinets ... physical boxes with drawers, that we were actually able to look into, reach into, and physically withdraw whatever it was that we needed/wanted. Barring some natural disaster or other physical act of "nature", things were always, right, where, we, left them.

This "virtual" stuff of "here today - maybe here tomorrow" (or maybe not, maybe it's over there, or has simply vaporized ;) is well, often fetching, for me anyway - to say the least ....

Thanks again - as always ...
