Hi Again! New computer this time & I think I may have infected it. I've been using AVG Free & Spyware Blaster to monitor & protect my computer (along with the standard Vista Security). AVG keeps finding the same 190 adware, trojan, & hijack 'warnings' within the following directory:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{random numbers & letters here}.

The thing is, I don't use Internet Explorer, I use Mozilla Firefox! To make matters more confusing, I run the AVG Free scan, heal & quarantine everything I find & it all disappears, until the next time I start up my computer. But as soon as I restart my computer, Spyware Blaster is showing 190 unprotected Internet Explorer items & AVG Free finds all that garbage again. Suffice to say, I'm confused & wondering how I'm infecting it. My computer is running fine & isn't exhibiting any of the typical infection symptoms. I've attached all the required logs as directed.

    Thanks for your help!

These are not problems! They are all false positives from AVG8. This has been discussed many times in the forum already. It is a bug in AVG8 that they will not admit to. They just say that SpywareBlaster and Spybot (and others that put these entries into your registry to protect you) are not compatible with AVG8. Actually it is the other way around since these other tools have done this for years. AVG8 is not compatible and has a problem that needs to be addressed. Grisoft's statement can be found in the below:

    See the item numbered 1198.

You can read more about this in the below link:

A note was also added to the How to protect yourself from malware sticky and we bumped AVG8 down to the bottom of the list due to this and other issues people were running into. One other issue was a significant speed change in running scans. Supposedly this is justified by it performing more in depth scans.

Thank you so much! I was so worried that I went & screwed up my brand new system. You guys are the best! Now I'm off to choose a different program.
