Thumbnails in thread posts.

Thumbnails posted in replies used to

    When clicked upon.

Now they step the browser forward to open in the existing window.

I find this a retrograde 'enhancement' as it was very convenient to have both the thread text and the picture up at the same time.

Also I keep closing Major Geeks altogether as I forget to use the back button not the X on the wndow when I have finished admiring the pic.

Interesting...thumbnails still open in a new window for me using Maxthon. What browser are you using?

I use FF and mine opens in a new window also.

btw, since thumbnails are the topic of this thread, even though it's not the question, could someone tell me how to attach a thumbnail? It's something I've never figured out how to do.

If you follow this guide --> HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post <-- and it's an image, it automatically attaches it as a thumbnail.:)

k...figured it out. It wasn't too hard once I realized that I had to upload from my puter as apposed to a URL (which I had always tried to do).

In IE they no longer open in a new window.

Y'all can shut up about my choice of browser, as it is irrelevant what you think. IE is still by about a 60% margin the most common browser used, and as such web sites should accomodate its users.

    LOL A little sensy there?

(I'm just foolin with you, btw. I've just never seen someone be proactive as far as critism of their browser choice goes. ;))

Back on topic though. I checked my IE and it also opens it in another window. It's black and has an X at the top right. When you x out, it brings you back to the forum page you were viewing, which is the same as it is in FF.

Sadly Majorgeeks has no control over how vBulletin is programmed, seems VB have decided like some other forum and websites software to have attached images open in a small window instead of in a new browser window. Must have been on a update list at VB and many folk asking for this to be implimented.

Plus as many will agree, updates to forum software are needed not in the asthetic but more for security these updates add, as geeks we should be able to master the new options ;)

Should open in IE fine but just not in a new browser window but more an image box, kinda sure I double clicked the attached images and they opened in new browser window opposed to the small window as well.

They open in a new window here just fine when clicking a thumb, using IE.

The internal program is called Lightbox and it allows you to view images when you hover over them.

Sgt Tibbs- No IE available for Linux user Geeks members.....piffle.:-D

I normally use IE as I am too lazy to learn anything else or too busy sticking fans down,

The simplest solution is to learn to right click the image and choose 'open in new window'
but the trouble with old dogs...........

At least you're not getting too old. When you're too old, you need to move further away. :-D

Seriously, though, it essetially opens in a new window, so I'm not following what the issue is.:confused

With the old system when I clicked on a thumbnail I had two explorer windows open -

The original MG one and the picture one. Very convenient (but taxable)

When finished with the pic I simply fiddled with the x in the top right of its corner and away it went leaving me with the original still open.

The new system opens my graphics browser (ADCSee) in the original window replacing MG with the pic - so when I use the x I close the whole durn thing and MA says - ever so politely as he does - do you really want to quit Major Geeks?

    You're very welcome. :-D

T'was a preemptive strike against the holier-than-thou folks who insist on answering anything that remotely mentions IE with something to the effect of "if you weren't a complete moron you would do EXACTLY AS I DO and use this other obscure browser that takes months to master". LOL

Now I have to go open a thread with thumbnails attached and see what it does exactly. I could've sworn it went forward rather than opening a new window.

I was right, darn it! It does NOT open a new window, and I have to hit "back" to get back to the thread. Want screenshot proof? :-D

No. Want proof from me that it opens in a new window? ;)

Actually, it depends via IE7 and IE8.

IE8, for me it opens a new browser window.
IE7, opens a black window with an x in the top right, in front of the thread.

I'm stuck in IE6 until I can afford to upgrade my OS to something a newer version will play nice with.

Do I have to actually leave the Malware Forum to explain this to you? :-D:-D

For older IE versions when you first click the thumbnail , you get the image opening in the same window with the black border around it. Simply click in the image itself and a new window showing the image only will open and you will have your initial screen of the thread back. ;)
