I'm trying to make a decision and I figured someone here could give me the low down

I'm thinking about taking a class, to fill my time till my census job comes back in May, the adult tech school here is offering a "Computer Service and Repair" class, the class description says,,
What is a Comptia A+ Certification, how much more schooling will I need past this course to acheive it. I talked to a counseler, but he wasn't sure.

it only cost's $25/semester, so that's not a big deal, but will a certificate from 'podunk' town adult school be worth anything?

    What say you all??

A+ is a industry recognized certification saying that you know at least some about computer hardware, installation and repair etc. That class and a book should be enough to get you the cert and a way into the IT industry.

If you are looking to do such a thing...don't stop at A+. A+ will get you into a place like the Goon, sorry, Geek Squad, but nothing much more than that.

Unless this is just a side hobby, of course.

I took the CompTia A+ classes a while back. Never took the A+ test. For $25 a semester, it could be a good class depending on your knowledge and the teacher. We stripped down some old 486 computers, installed a couple of versions of Windows and Red Hat Linux. In my case, it was a good intro to old tech...

I had a good time taking it, and did learn a little about troubleshooting and computer repair. The A+ cert is not a college degree by any means, but if you are interested in getting your foot in as an intern or entry level person, it sure can't hurt!

That's what I was hoping to hear, I couldn't do the geek squad thing cause my days of a 40 hr week are over, any day thats not bad, is a great day.

What I was thinking, within 20 miles of me are a TON of small pc repair businesses, I figured with the fresh cert.I might be able to pick up some part time work.

I think I'll go for it, thanks for the input :)

@ darlene :p at least my town smells like lucky charms :p
