doing malware removal-can't d/l ccleaner

    Hi,
    First time I'm posting,hope I'm doing it ok. Tried to follow mal removal but can't download ccleaner from your site. tried both click on ccleaner in instructions & tried using search. I'm using win 98se. Please help. Also, can't figure out how to update ad-aware 1.0.6rt. Tried to d/l the zip ver and then d/l 7-zip to open it & when I tried to open & install the updates manually, I kept getting 7-zip installation until I had 3 copies of both the zipped update & 7-zip. Sorry I'm so confused.

    What happens?
    Have you tried using another browser?
    Which browser are you using?
    Are you able to download anything at all?
    Continue on with the rest of the READ & RUN ME.

    Like your Windows version, Ad-Aware 1.0.6 is out of date. Automatic updates within the program no longer work. You must manually install them. You can download them here Ad-aware SE referencefile and then you need to extract them from the ZIP file into your C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal folder . I know you are saying you tried to do this but I don't follow what you mean by
    I think you will need to post in the Software Forum if you cannot even get un unzip to work. You need to install 7-zip first. Did you do this successfully.


    What malware problems are you actually having?

I d/l'd 7 zip but don't know how to use a zip file. I d/l'd ad-aware update from your site. but, when I tried to manually extract it, I ended up with another extraction of 7 zip. I have an old pc with integrated motherboard not recognizing anything beyond win95.No sound,480X640,16 colors but free. I want to continue to pay my bills on line but did a stupid thing,played a game on line and then ad-aware without new defs, found 8 critical objects,Just want to get pc safe for paying bills till I can afford another pc. Thanks loads

    These are not malware issue. You will have to post in the Hardware Forum but you will have trouble getting any support for such an outdated PC.

    Ad-Aware scare many people into believing they have "critical" issues when often they are not. You will have to tell me exactly what the issues were, but if they are cookies or MRUs then ignore them because the description that they are critical is totally a lie.

    The critical issues were data miners. If I'm in wrong place, please tell me how to get to the right place to find out why I can't d/l ccleaner & how to use unzip and manually update ad-aware. Thanks,

    That is what Ad-Aware often calls cookies and cookies are not problems. You can easily just remove them anyway within your browser or using a program like CCleaner but it is not necessary.

    I'm sorry but you are having a problem due to your knowledge level of using Windows and applications for Windows which is not really an issue for the Malware Forum. You can get more help for this in the Software Forum. The download links for CCleaner work just fine so I'm not sure what your problem is. Make sure that you are clicking on one the Major Geeks download links. The download links look like below.

    The links are under the Free Downloads From heading. However try just clicking this:CCleaner

    Does that work for you. Just wait! It will popup the File Download window for you and you just need to select Save to download and save the file to your PC. Alternatively you can select Open to run the installation file. It will download to a temp folder and automatically run the installation program.
