I want to know how to delete the list of items researched via Google. I know how to delete history and cookies etc, but cannot find out how to delete the Google search list from my computer and it is no one else's business what I am researching.
Can anyone help me with this??????
    Thank you.

    Hi

Try turning of Autocomplete in your browser, so if IE7 then click Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and untick "use inline autocomplete" > Apply as well as click Tools > Internet Options > Content Tab > next to Autocomplete click Settings and untick all the options listed and click OK.

Also the freeware program CCleaner would be good choice if you want a thorough cleaning of all old, unnecessary files such as the ones you mentioned.

ATF Cleaner can also do it. It is said to be the safest cleaner of them all. CCleaner is also safe - just to put that straight. :)

I'm sorry in advance if I'm on the wrong trail, but I had a problem figuring out cleaning up history after getting FF3, but not necessarily google. I found I could delete the pop-down menu that showed everywhere I went on my navigation toolbar thing (whatever it's called)...
Hard to explain, it just works for me...
I click on 'history' on the 2nd toolbar from the top... :-D
where it says..." File Edit View History Bookmarks Yahoo! Tools Help"
then click on "show all history"...
then click on the top one once so it's highlighted...
just leave your mouse alone and start clicking "delete" button on your keyboard.
I hope somebody shows us a better way,
it gets to be a chore if I need to do this often, and nobody else uses my computer hardly ever,
and I'm not concerned about porn or like that,
mostly I don't want my daughter to worry if she would see I'm looking at glaucoma related help sites, etc.
    :)

If you want specific entries deleted under the search box in the drop-down menu on Googles search page it can be done by moving the cursor to the entry so that is gets blue - highlighted. Then without clicking on it just press the "Del" (delete) key on your PC and the typo - or what ever it was - is gone.

This is not specifically what you wanted but it is related. I do not like a history kept of sites I go to. I don't want cookies saved and I want passwords wiped. I like a very clean computer.
FF3 to permanently remove the list of sites visited in the address bar
    1. In the address bar type about:config
    2. In the filter box type urlbar
    3. Find browser.urlbar.maxRichResults and set the value to 0 that turns this feature off.

Hi Grandma Beth, welcome to Major Geeks. :wave

Just a note about answering more than one post at the same time, you can use Multi-quote instead of QUOTE if you want to answer more than one post at the same time. That's the icon to the right of QUOTE. Use Multi-quote for all posts you want to answer except the last one, and use QUOTE for that. :)

    Dear Grandma Beth.

Most of us use ATF Cleaner or CCleaner for the job. Or both even. They are safe. Really. You need such a tool for the job you want done and these fine programs were made for it. Millions of users have downloaded these excellent freeware programs and we like them and use them several times a month. Actually a lot of software companies cooperate with CCleaner. They do that because it's difficult to get all residue of an old program version completely uninstalled when a company issues a new version of their software. Add/remove programs leave a lot behind that we can't see. So the companies ask CCleaner to include these surplus old useless files so that they can get deleted. It's what CCleaner was made for. It is it's job. And it's brilliant at it! These are the download links here at MajorGeeks: ATF Cleaner or CCleaner. Both programs will delete all of your search history also.

We also need a bit more information about your browser: do you use Firefox or Internet Explorer?

This article by Microsoft is about clearing cache and cookies. Lots of screenshots. Link here. Google article about the same subject here.

And finally - Google article about deleting Google search history. This was what you wanted to know all the time. Link here.

In FF3 I could not clear the search history, no matter what official methods I tried (i.e. clear private date, going through options, etc. Even deleting the individuals entries didn't work. They came back.) Here's what DID work. Going to bookmarks and deleting the actual bookmark to the site. Now it's gone from Search History. An unsatisfactory solution to what seems to be a bug, but it worked.

From now on, when you have a question, please start your own thread. It will be most likely to be looked at if it's not part of someone else's question. :)

Thanks, Laura. I thought I was replying to the same problem that "Grandma" had. The fix certainly works. It's too bad you can't keep the smart typing feature (i.e. places you've gone that match your keystoks appear) but still clear the list of sites that appears when you press the down arrow to the right of the star.
